2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

To understand the significance of landing Daylon Mack, try to think back to a more coveted DT recruit in Texas. Name them. Tommie Harris? Malcom Brown? Isaiah Golden?

Harris was rated in great part on potential. He had tools and potential. It wasn't really translated to the field at OU. He went from blue chip to ordinary.

Malcom Brown is a success story. And his skills were noticeable at the HS level. However, his ceiling was lower than that of Mack.

Isaiah Golden – aggy happened. Career over.

Daylon Mack has RB-caliber skills in a 300+ lb body. He almost single-handily willed his team to victory over eventual state champion Gilmer playing a position he's really not built for. He even kicked. Some would argue that the state championship game was played that evening between G'water and Gilmer. No one else played Gilmer that close the rest of the way.

You did get a snapshot of what he's capable of during the all-star game. He was the one receiving his mail in the offensive backfield. This was against the best of the best OL. He used them. Toyed with them. If that were a regular season game, he would have made all-state with that game.

Everything is already there. When you talk potential about this kid, you're way ahead in the conversation that you were when you talked about past DT recruits. He'll make our DL special, feared, dominant, fast, and did I mention feared?

IMO, he's way more crucial to this class than Murray ever was.
thats because gladewater played a whole new level and as much as i will admit to this me being a Gilmer alumni..Gilmer got outplayed and they were not expecting this caliber style offensive line and defensive front of G'water PLUS all these years Gladewater was the little brother but that night they

were the big brother

IMO this is the single most "on point" post in this entire thread.  I also feel Daylon Mack is the most dominate player in Texas.

Very well expressed Mr. SHA

you know what? it just occurred to me SHA you know who DM reminds me of as a RB? Jerome Bettis....Everytime I seen Daylon bulldoze over his oppponents ..they knew they were in for a long night trying to stop him..and yes for defensive side of the ball..Sheldon Richardson..with a style of Charles Haley

I did not have all those details to back up what I already suspected. Now I do. Fingers crossed...

I have said this before and it is worth repeating.  His quickness is unreal for a player his size.  The Friday night I saw him, he took several plays off and got frustrated a couple of times but it was that sudden burst of quickness that makes you go WOW.

When he wanted to beat his guy, there was no stopping him.  He is the only recruit that I saw in person but in my opinion he is the most important.  The guy has unbelieveable balance and quickness for a 300 pounder.  He his a must get and I can't wait to see what Strong can do with him.

SHA - I have 2 questions for you:

1.  If we had Daylon Mack last year, how much did our record improve over 6-7 ??

2.  If we had Murray @ QB  last year, how much did our record improve over 6-7 ??

.... IMO, Mack is worth 2 extra wins IMO (UCLA plus another)

Murray would have got us at least 4 more wins if not 5

Mack is huge, but it is not an even trade for UT in UT's situation (sans premier QB and OC)
