2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

It's my understanding, and I may be wrong on this, that if he were on both teams, he would count as one scholarship for football and one for baseball as well.
I concur with Mike Garland, the school can limit what you receive ... FYI from a guy that has written several articles on NCAA scholarship limits:

Athletes must be notified by July 1st each year whether their athletic scholarship will be renewed for the same amount, increased, decreased, or cancelled for the upcoming academic year.  If an athlete’s scholarship is reduced or cancelled, the athlete must be notified by the school that a hearing opportunity is available to them.

Prospects who are planning to play both football and another sport at the college level (applies to both Division I and II) should not sign with their school until the football signing period in February.  A number of years ago, some schools tried to get an advantage by having football recruits sign in other sports during the November signing period.  That loophole was closed, and now football players or true dual-sport athletes who sign in November will be ineligible for practice and competition in football during their freshman year, and will forfeit a season of competition.

Baseball player on scholarship can try out for football. But if he actually plays one down in one game his scholarship is then counted against the football limits.

I think.

I stole this from Shaggy

"from a texaggy thread before the staff deleted the info...

"TexAgs had a thread go nuclear when someone started it with the bomb below. Liucci has since zapped it and the ensuing thread is part meltdown part I'm not sure. Anyways mods can delete but I don't really see it as premium info if it was just from some random poster.

I'm not sure if I should post this or not, but here goes. I spoke with a friend tonight whose son takes lessons from Kevin Murray and this is what he told me.

First, they had to cancel their lesson for tomorrow because Oregon will be making an in home visit. I haven't read where anyone has said this yet but they scheduled this real late in the game. My buddy said the Murray's didn't find out until last night that Oregon was making an in home visit.

We all know about Thursday with A&M and Friday with Strong. Now to the part I'm not sure I should post. From what my friend told me if the decision was up to Kevin, Kyler will be heading to Texas. The reason being is Kevin wants to be wherever Kyler is. When I brought up the possible consulting job, my buddy didn't say anything other than Kevin really wants to be working wherever Kyler goes. I left that alone for a minute. I then stated some of the things Liucci and Brice have said about the visit being crucial for A&M on Thursday and that I felt A&M would get Kyler. My buddy then said the only way A&M gets Kyler is if Kyler tells his parents that's where he wants to be. Kevin will let him make the call.

The only positive I see is that it's in Kyler's hands. The part that bothers me is that Kevin and several texas players are in his ear. That might explain the pressure tweet Kyler issued. I think Sumlin and Spav will have to hit a home run come Thursday night with Kyler. That's nothing new."

Completely jives with what Higdon has been saying."
This is what concerns me - it's in Kylers hands.  I would prefer Kevin make the decision.

All this being said and should Kyler go to UT, is anyone the least bit worried that Kevin Murray might be a helicopter dad - ala McCoy?

If we win 45 games in 4 yrs with a few playoff appearance and play for a Natty....helicopter away.
Honestly I think Kevin has too much respect for Strong & Watson to let this happen. Charlie has a track record with QBs that is positive, Sumlin not so much.

Not sure about that...

If Kyler (or any for that matter) feel the decision was made for them by their parents they are more prone to turn resentful quickly if things aren't awesome immediately. If Kyler makes the decision himself, he know he owns it. Like any good parent, they are giving their best advice and hope the kid makes the best decision.

Yes, Murray Sr. could be a helicopter dad, but that was allowed to persist under Mack for Case, and I don't see that same type of leeway being given by Strong. Especially since they are long-time friends, it has a much better chance of helping than hurting. Doesn't mean things wouldn't blow up, but it's in both parties interest to make it work.

Time for bed, but this has been a great thread today.  It is such a departure from the childish rancor you find on other threads.  Hope it lasts.

Night all.

This is an interesting quote that may support this theory, or maybe it is just a basketball rule ? ... from the same link as above:

Can my daughter play basketball and particate in track at a D1 school and receive either a partial or full scholarship from one of the sports?

Answer:  Because of the scholarship rules for NCAA Div. I basketball, if your daughter receives even a partial scholarship for track, and also plays basketball, she will have to count as one of the 15 countable scholarship athletes for the basketball team. Some coaches won’t be willing to provide one of their 15 scholarship “slots†to a “part-time†athlete who is splitting time between two sports. Some coaches will be OK with it, but her pool of potential schools will probably be reduced if she wants to do both.

Rick
... IMO, Kyler could not be a true college Dual-sport player under the Mack Brown regime - he never allowed it ... But Strong does not have a problem with it ...  this may also account for our later interest by the Murrays as aggies have always allowed Dual-sport athletes to sign in football

Juan, I do believe you are on to something. I speak from a little experience as my wife has faithfully watched for years NCIS, NCIS Los Angeles, CSI New York (when it was running), and a handful of others. I'm trained to think like you just did, only you were the only one who caught it.

Do the jerseys numbers have any significance?

1 through 7?

LoL ... I disagree - remember that Soso and Kyler were both given # 1 jerseys (but different colors)

Im glad its in Kylers hands, thats what good parenting is. Teaching your kids to make good decisions, sometimes they do, sometimes not. Hope he takes his parents advice. Hoping the Uncle shows up during the in-home with Sumlin also.

Really hope we get Kyler but i applaud Kevin for letting Kyler make this decision. I have the same concern about helicopter dad but letting him make decisions like this hopefully shows that he isn't.
