2016 recruiting

Garland and I are working on finalizing the 2016 top 50. I'll give you some early teaser thoughts.

Quarterback doesn't have a true star prospect but several interesting ones. I like Hurt, Sterling-Cole, and Buechele

The top position group is probably safety with three studs at the position. Deontay Anderson, Eric Monroe, and Brandon Jones are all dynamic defensive talents.

Receiver is a deep position this year with a lot of big bodied guys and electric speed threats.

Offensive line is top heavy with two monster prospects but it isn't a terribly deep position.

Running back is interesting but like quarterback has no true star standout. There are guys who are electric like Kam Martin but not quite complete, and there are complete guys who don't have the electricity.

Defensive end is deep but again there's no one there that has the first step that will blow you away.

I believe we will be debuting the 2016 rankings on signing day so stay tuned.
Good stuff. QB - Agreed. I have Hurts No. 1 but will probably change my mind in 15 minutes. RB - Darius Anderson is a solid prospect. Travyeon Williams has an extra gear. WR - Disagree. You understated how good this WR class is. Insane depth at WR. OT - Good. OG - Only a few. DE - Some good ones. Johnnie Williams is the most underrated of the class. LB - Why can't we produce more depth at LB. Always a few great ones, but never enough depth? CB - Fantastic. The smaller ones have even figured out that you need to play physical. If you are under 6'0, you better play physical. Have five or six elite ones that will do that. There is this Terrense Lott kid, too. S - Elite-level. Studs everywhere. Kickers - Crickets. La Vega has some underrated ones. Langham Creek is a good place to have on a school visit list.

I don't think I understated the WR position.  It's very deep, but I didn't want to go too deep into our rankings and give it away.  Tren'Davian Dickson and Devin Duvernay are two big play threats, Courtney Lark, Dee Anderson, Hemphill, Tyrie Cleveland, and the guy I really love in this class Keith Corbin.  Not understating it at all, it's as deep as it has been in recent years.

The 2016 class is very loaded at WR, and DT. While it is not loaded at OL it probably has the top rated OT in the country. Texas needs to do a good job with those Dbs and DLs. If they finish this 2015 class strong they won't have to hit Florida as hard. Instead of 5-6 guys maybe 1 or 2.

Dickson is a beast...

Agree with you. I need to develop more cred on here before I start trying to make a joke. I know you like the WRs, but was trying to say how much I really, really liked the WRs. My fault.

And yes, Dickson is a beast. Ade Omotosho is a nice player, always been high on Jared Wyatt as well. Will be like 2015 where a bunch of these kids end up going late.

Eh, mistake in picking up what you were putting down.  Yes, I watched 55 players on film last night and was amazed at how far down the list I was finding stud receivers.  I really like Corbin.

That's my fault. Hard to convey tone over electronic means of communication. Would quote a standup comedian joke here mentioning a sarcastica font, but this is not the place. Corbin is an absolute yes. Cleveland, Lark, Duvernay all explosive. Kendrick Rogers is underrated to me. Donell Dunn (Cy Springs) and Quartney Davis (Langham Creek) are good players. Bubba Ogbebor is a nice player. I still kind of like Vasher, but it remains to be seen whether he is elite-level yet. Borderline, if not, will make a nice CUSA player.

How do you compare Colin Johnson to all these in-state guys?

WR is very deep in 16 but unfortunately i don't think we have room for more than 3. Hope we can get a 4th but thats a ton of WR in a 3 year span.

Collins doesn't play in a pass heavy offense but when they do put it up to him he looks freaky... If he was in Texas I think he would rank very high with the other wrs.

QB Messiah deWeaver (Dayton, Ohio) decommitted from Michigan.

At one point, we were interested.

I've heard he's going to be rated a 5-star

Colin Johnson can play. Messiah deWeaver decommitted? Had a few good phone calls from a new recruiting guy on the staff there.

Disregard. deWeaver decommitted a few minutes ago. Outstanding and early catch. Gentry's switch has sort of changed the landscape in a few ways, which probably had nothing to do with the latest rumors. Think Hurts is just as good, just my opinion. Which some will disagree with.

2016 RB Rakeem Boyd and

2016 WR Tren'Davian Dickson

received Junior Day invites.

WRs Camron Williams & Kelan Hallv (First Baptist) will be at Junior Day Feb 28
