I'm not Charlie, but my strategy would focus on Texas, not the fact that tcu was first alternate for the playoff. That sounds pretty good to me right now.

They're going to finish in the top-5 and be preseason top-5 next year. Pointing THAT out as shortcomings when we're where we are struck me as an odd sales pitch.

Agree, I pimp Texas and leave it at that. But if I have to go there, that's where I go.

There is no such thing as "first alternate" in the college playoffs. FYI. 

I don't think anyone has suggested pimping TCU's predicted pre-season ranking for 2015. Especially since those rankings have not been made. Yes, that would be odd if that's your sales pitch.

But if you want to go there, I'll just repeat myself - what's it for? They'll find a way to leave you out. Just look at 2014. Winning by 50 got you dropped from the party. 

Like I said, you can be one play away from perfection - and you'll still watch the playoffs on TV at TCU.

that's true. but tcu is going to finish in the top 2 or 3 for the second time in the last 5 years.

meanwhile, brand names like texas, michigan, notre dame, usc, nebraska, ou, florida and penn state can't say the same.

it's not the old days when 8-10 teams were 'brand names' and only those teams were on TV or got the pub. 

i'm confident we'll be back in the mix and sooner rather than later, but college football has changed and TV money and exposure have leveled the playing field to some degree.
