I think the whole team felt like that after blowing a 20 pt 4th quarter lead.

Good, clean hit. Exactly the way a kicker should be treated if he tries to get in on a tackle like that.
Actually, it wasn't and the MSU player who hit BU's kicker should've been called for Targeting.

Rule 9-1-4: No player shall target and initiate contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulder. When in question, it is a foul

Rule 2-27-14: A defenseless player is one who because his physical position and focus of concentration is especially vulnerable to injury. Examples of defenseless players are:

a. A player in the act of or just after throwing a pass.

b. A receiver attempting to catch a pass, or one who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a ball carrier.

c. A kicker in the act of or just after kicking a ball, or during the kick or the return.

d. A kick returner attempting to catch or recover a kick.

e. A player on the ground.

f. A player obviously out of the play.

g. A player who receives a blind-side block.

h. A ball carrier already in the grasp of an opponent and whose forward progress has been stopped.

i. A quarterback any time after a change of possession.

If he is going after the ball carrier to try and tackle, the kicker becomes fair game. They had a conversation about that on ESPN News. If he would not have been in the play, then it would have been a penalty.

Well I agree with all those rules but they don't apply here. It's very clear that he was in pursuit of the ball carrier. At the moment he decides he's going after the ball he forfeits all the protections he has as a kicker and falls under the same rules as any other defender.

The guy who blocked him was very careful to square up and hit him in the chest-shoulder area.

It was a clean block as long as he was a defender, that's why I made the statement in the way I did.

It didn't look that way while watching it today and it appears that the MSU player launches himself upward into the K's head & neck area. I'd need to see another angle to confirm, but this type of play can't be reviewed. When in doubt, err on the side of player safety.

Probably the most laughable denial of what a video really shows in the history of all the posts on any sight I have ever been on."

The blocker did not hit the kicker in the head or neck...he hit the dude on the side below his arm pit, check the arm flying upward, the real problem was the way the kicker landed on the hard artificial surface.

I'm glad you got some entertainment out of my observation but if you take away any preconceived bias you have about the play you will see the same thing. It happens fast but if you slow it down and look you will see the blocker see the kicker, slow down, bend his knees and explode right through the left chest to shoulder area. Underarm is probably a better way to put it but please don't let the video evidence get in the way of your agenda.
