Lawrence Central High School LB (Indianapolis, IN) is set to announce his college commitment tomorrow.

The Longhorns are in good position to secure a commitment from Kirkland, who has Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas in his top 4.

Kirkland committed to Michigan in May of this year and officially decommitted from the Wolverines in early November.

Kirkland is 6-2, 220 lbs.and has offers from 30+ programs.

Here is Kirkland with Ryan Newsome and Malik Jefferson last weekend on their OV's to Texas:

This would be a huge get for Charlie Strong and his coaches. Seems like Tennessee is the favorite, but here is hoping the good guys get the nod.

Certainly passes the eyeball test. Kid is built.

Here's what I see

1. He has an OV at Texas

2. He then has an in-home with Charlie

3. Almost immediately after, he changes plans on his announcement and moves it up much sooner.

IMO, you don't do that if you're in a hurry to get to Tennessee.

I think he's Texas. Hope I'm right.

it would be a huge get no way around it. The momentum it would create in recruiting for us would be huge. Utenn fans seem to think its in the bag for them though.

I'm not as confident as the staff is but they are really thinking they have put in the work necessary this one.

I know UT has secured verbal comittments from quality players, but this announcement feels like the first true test in determining the closing ability of this staff.  I'm going to ask my 8 ball what Kirkland is going to do.  This method has a suprising sucess rate.  Hook em!

Burton at 247 says it will be Tennessee or Ole Miss. Texas is too far away and too big. :(

His Dad has stated that distance is an issue .. .

Ketch and Mike F from Rivals think it's Tenn. . .

I hope he pulls the stunner but not getting my hopes up. . . .

OTOH, Cherry appears in the bag so we are landing some talent at MLB and we need it. . .

Tennessee was always thought to have held the upper hand with Kirkland but Texas has been on him fairly heavily as of late. If they miss out it won't be for lack of effort.

Too far I'll grudgingly agree with (5 1/2 drive vs a 2 hour flight)  but too big? Both Old Miss and Tenn had an undergrad enrollment of around 22,000 in 2014. Once you get that big you hardly notice if it is 40,000, besides he will be spending almost all of his time with the football team so it's not like he's left to fend for himself.

UT Austin is a different world from UT Knoxville.  Not only is the campus enrollment double at UT Austin, the city of Austin is almost 5x the size as the city of Knoxville and the MSA is twice as large.  That makes a huge difference in perception of size.
