Iowa State - initial thoughts

1 Swoopes played a nice game. Nice passes all the way around, some outstandingly well placed. He is definitely feeling comfortable in his running game skin now. He was very effective. Couldn't ask for much more.

2. Is our defense still in a taxi cab somewhere? What happened? Did Mangino just own Bedford?

3. As much as I like a win, I feel bad for being thrilled about beating Iowa State in the last seconds. At home. It's Iowa State.

4. The offensive line is playing much better together. Time with Wick is paying dividends.

5. I posted earlier "where is Steve Edmonds". I saw him in on the next play. This was late in the 2nd qtr. Not a good game for him at all.

6. Duke Thomas is going to be a AA before he is done.

7. Glad to see us get a couple turnovers, one going back all the way.

8. No real monumental F ups on ST. I'd say thats a win.

9. Malcom Brown's hit on that back. Dayum. 

10. I'll take the win, but we're going to have to play better than this to beat the teams left on our schedule.

Have to give our special teams some credit tonight. Played fantastic.

That was a frustrating game to watch. I am really shocked by our defense. But a win is a win and this was a big win. Offense is making some very good progress and I was pretty impressed with Swoopes. He is night and day different from 3 weeks ago. K-State is going to be tough.

I think he missed on a few (#7 Johnson on a deep post, bad throw, should have been more of a post and nobody back there but he threw more of a fly and overthrew it) but overall played well, especially with his feet. Im still not sold on him as our future but he played his best game.

Cant happen again this year or we lose. 5-6 yard passes and crosses were there all night. KSt will be very hard next week.

Agreed. We must win 3 more games, next years success will go a long way towards getting 3 more weeks of practice.

much better, indeed. Did Cam Hughes play a lot at RT today? anyone know who played majority of the snaps? Hopefully nobody got hurt. keep getting better guys. Wickline, earning his paycheck.

#3 and #10! Win is a win but Jesus that was such a painful win! ISU gave us THEIR best game of the year. Even in down years we are a marquee game. Respect.

I wonder what a game would look like where all components play well... I hope we see that soon. It'd be unstoppable.

As to the the D.

Welcome to the big 12 (coaching staff,) and real O's where they scheme you and change their O to exploit your weaknesses and take what your scheme gives them. It is not unusual for good DC's to look bad, even yes SEC DC's in the Big 12.

This is why in the Big 12, to win it you must have an offense that can also score big for you. It iMay be okay to have ball control style, you must score TD's, at the end of those possession drives.

The O tonight for the first time provides that hope. The D on the other hand needs to adjust to Big 12 play.

I was there, as well.  It was fun.  I saw Iowa State play earlier in the year, and quite frankly, they appeared improved.  I cannot recall who they were playing.  If memory serves, it was a respectable, but not a great team.  At the time, I thought for a team in transition they could be a tough out because they didn't quit and they didn't beat themselves.

I am happy with a win the week after we play OU.  How did the Sooners come out?  Oh, wait, they lost.  Oops.  Can you say emotional let down?

Criticize the defense if you want, but they defended beautifully until the offense turned it over twice.  They defended 93 plays, playing short-handed.  93!!!  I don't think SE was supposed to play, unless he was needed.  Yes the offense played much better, but, had they not turned it over twice, the outcome would probably have been much different.

Just my two cents.  Glad to see improved special teams play.  Also glad to see Nate Boyer with Tank on the coin toss.  Felt like I had my Blankie on the field.
