Missouri senator blasts Stoops on DGB

It is kind of an interesting position for McCaskill to take, as she has plenty of her own issues.

Her current husband -- who is the primary funder of her campaigns -- has been described as a "slumlord" who made money off owning a lot of Section 8 property (low income housing where rent is subsidized by the US taxpayer).

More interestingly for the instant purposes, he was also accused of domestic violence by his former wife (police were called by their daughter, a complaint was filed  - she (a breast cancer victim) says he grabbed her and pushed her down).  In the divorce papers, she additionally claimed he hit her (including in her cancer ravaged breasts) and even peed on her.

Later, he was accused of sexual harassment by one of the female employees at his property management company.

McCaskill got caught using his airplane for campaign purposes while charging the expenses to the US taxpayer (which she was forced to reimburse).  They also had a large unpaid tax bill on the same plane.

There's more, like drug use allegations (she apparently employed a drug dealer in an office), but the point is, if you are going to hop on a high horse, it's better to have a clean stable yourself.

i enjoy a good stoops bashing almost as much as a good monarch bashing. almost.

but did mccaskill have a strong opinion about this months ago when the DGB/ou news was first reported or does the timing indicate with the 'outrage train' at full throttle, she was afraid of being left at the station?

not that outrage isn't warranted, but sounds like a low hanging fruit political grab to me.

I don't care why McCaskill is speaking out. I don't care if the politician is a democrat, republican, or al-Qaeda. Anyone that speaks out against Stoops for trying to play DGB without sitting out for a year is most welcome.

I enjoy that this has backfired for Stoops. He doesn't get DGB for this year and he's getting the bad publicity that went with it.

So only saints are allowed to express their opinions? This place could get real quiet.

No worries, Duke.  Saint JB of Tarrant will be happy to pick up the slack for you heathen scoundrels!

Stoops was selfish d-bag for even trying to petition the NCAA for a waiver on DGB.  It made no sense to anyone with a lick of common sense.  I'm glad it makes him and OU look bad.

First, censorship is already here.

Second, I would challenge you to point to the quote that said she should not be "allowed to express" her opinion.   She was criticized, not censored.

Look, anyone can play the strawman game like you did here.  Let me give you a few quick examples--

Why do you not care about the victim of the domestic violence committed by McCaskill's husband?  Why do you so easily forgive him but not DGB?  Is this position of yours grounded in race?  Partisan politics?

Why do you not care about the victim of his sexual harassment?

Why do you hate women?

How can you, in good conscience, complain that someone was attempting to suppress McCaskill's free speech while simultaneously attempting to do that yourself?

As shown, strawmen are not difficult.  It's a lazy way to argue.  It cheapens discussion.  Everyone knows it and most see it for the mere diversionary tactic it is intended to be (as it was here).  Further, it undermines the fruitful discussion of issues and stymies democratic ideals.  I would encourage you to reconsider before piling in like that next time.

But back to the original point.  McCaskill's husband is not simply some unknown, anonymous political donor.  He is her primary political funder/fundraiser.*  This is a man well-known as being accused of domestic violence upon a spouse and sexual harassment of an employee.  In other words, she knowingly accepts large sums of money from a likely serial abuser of women in order to further her own political ambitions.  This makes her position in that article not just hypocritical but cynically so.  In short, she is not the right spokesperson to hop on a soapbox and criticize Stoops over DGB.  And she deserves to be called out it for it.

* Footnote1-  Not mentioned above, but McCaskill's husband is also a large owner of publicly funded retirement housing.  Something McCaskill handily has had oversight of in the past.  Corrupt political relationships bother me much more than Stoops' position on DGB's eligibility. Frankly, I think they should bother you more too.

There is more to it than Bob Stoops.  Although i think he is a slimeball of the first magnitude, he is just a coach and not the AD or the president of OU.  THEY are the ones to decide whether DGB would be allowed into OU or not - not Stoops.

The DGB controversy is a condemnation of the whole OU program and the university itself.  Stoops is just a pimp in the dustup.

i doubt it. theoretically yes.

i doubt stoops is paterno or bryant in his status at ou but the football coach at certain schools clearly has sway over anybody else.

Well, remember it was this kind of OU administration that continued to allow a sorry bastard like Switzer to remain - knowing he was screwing an asst's wife and suspected of banging a couple of coeds as well.

But he won football games and, more importantly, he beat DKR.

They are our #1 rival, but they are a sorry bunch of SOB's.

There is no doubt stoops was the instigator in pursuing DGB. And the blow u administration sank to the bottom with him.

A pox on both their houses.
