Any thoughts of the No. 10 Longhorns upsetting No. 5 Georgia on Saturday between the hedges were officially erased in the early stages of the fourth quarter at Sanford Stadium in Athens. Last year in the SEC Championship Game it was a fake punt, this year it was an onside kick that Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns were not expecting. Until that point Texas had a real chance.

Outsmarted again.

Arch Manning and the Texas offense drove the field on the opening drive and settled for Mason Shipley’s 33-yard field goal to give the Longhorns a 3-0 lead.

Georgia responded with a 9 play, 75-yard drive that ended with a 17-yard touchdown pass from Gunner Stockton to Noah Thomas.

Following a three-and-out by Texas, the Bulldogs marched 66 yards downfield, again ending the drive with a Stockton to Thomas touchdown (4-yards).

Georgia would take a 14-3 lead into the locker room at halftime..

After trading a pair of punts to open the second half, Texas linebacker Anthony Hill intercepted Stockton at the Bulldogs’ 36 yard line. The Texas offense capitalized on the turnover, with Manning connecting with Ryan Wingo for a 7-yard touchdown.

Texas cut the lead the 14-10 with 5:21 remaining in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs made the most of their next possession, converting two fourth downs to put six more point on the board. Nate Frazier’s 7-yard rushing touchdown extended the Georgia lead to 21-10 as the fourth quarter started. The onside kick followed Frazier’s score, resulting in a 9-play, 53-yard touchdown drive.

Bulldogs led 28-10 with 8:49 remaining in the game.

The Texas offense could not muster up anything in their final possessions of the game, while Gunner Stockton added a touchdown run for good measure to give Georgia a 35-10 win over the Longhorns.

Arch Manning finished the game with 251 yards passing with one touchdown and one interception.

Quintrevion Wisner led the Longhorns in rushing with 37 yards, 30 of which came on the opening drive of the game.

The loss marked the third straight to Georgia and likely knocked the Longhorns out of contention for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
