QB1 for the Texas Longhorns was named to another preseason award watch list – this time, the Manning Award. The All-State Sugar Bowl, who oversees the award, named Quinn Ewers to the watch list on Thursday. It marks the second consecutive year he made the list for the Manning Award, which recognises the top quarterback in college football and is the only award that takes into account bowl game performances as part of its evaluation.
Ewers threw for 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns last season and was named Big 12 Championship’s Most Outstanding Player after throwing for 452 yards and four touchdowns in the win against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Finalists for the award will be announced prior to the start of bowl season, with the winner being announced and honored after the national championship game.
The Longhorns have had two quarterbacks previously win the Manning Award (Vince Young – 2005, Colt McCoy – 2009).
Ewers was also named to the Davey O’Brien, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Player of the Year preseason watch lists.
The Longhorns open their season ranked 4th in both the Associated Press and US LBM Coaches Polls on Saturday, August 31 at 2:30 pm as they host the Colorado State Rams.
