Brick Haley, who coached the defensive line for 5 years at Louisiana State University, was hired by the Longhorns on Friday. Haley fills the void left by Chris Rumph who served as defensive line coach under Charlie Strong for one season before accepting the same position at the University of Florida last week.
Haley’s status with LSU was uncertain due to Les Miles’ hiring of Ed Orgeron in January. Orgeron was hired to coach the Tigers’ defensive line and Haley was reassigned to other administrative areas within LSU’s athletic department.
Haley is a seasoned coach with a solid mind for defense and has held coaching positions with Arkansas, Houston, Troy State, Clemson, Baylor, Georgia Tech and Mississippi State. Prior to his stint with the LSU Tigers Haley was the defensive line coach for the Chicago Bears in the NFL.
Haley’s success is proven, as referenced in LSU’s defensive statistics. Under Haley’s tenure as defensive line coach in Baton Rouge, the Tigers forced 39 turnovers and limited opponents to an average of 120 rushing yards per game.
With the Hiring of Haley, Charlie Strong’s staff for the 2015 season is complete.
