The Texas Longhorns (13-3, 7-1) capped off a successful season that saw them finish with one regular season conference loss, an appearance in the SEC Championship Game, and a deep run in the College Football Playoff (CFP). It marked the second consecutive season under fourth year head coach Steve Sarkisian in which the team won at least 12 games and made the Playoff.
Texas defeated Clemson in the first round of the CFP and fended off Arizona State in the Peach Bowl quarterfinal en route to the semifinals against Ohio State. The Buckeyes defeated Texas at AT&T Stadium 28-14 and went on to claim the national championship with a 34-23 victory over Notre Dame.
As the college football season officially comes to a close, the final Associated Press Top-25 Poll was released. The Longhorns find themselves finishing at No. 4, behind Ohio State, Notre Dame and Oregon. Rounding out the Top 10 are Penn State, Georgia, Arizona State, Boise State, Tennessee and Indiana.
The No. 4. ranking also marks the second consecutive year in which the Longhorns finished in the Top-5 of the AP-Top 25 Poll. This has not happened since the 2008-2009 season.
