Texas Women's Hoops Roll to 2-0 Start

Texas Women’s Basketball has had an eventful opening to its 40th regular season. The Longhorns have signed a top ten recruiting class, blownout its exhibition opponent, and started off the season 2-0. The Longhorns opened the year against UTSA, winning 63-42.

Texas got a double double from sophomore Imani McGee-Stafford, who came off the bench with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks, while senior leader Chassidy Fussell poured in 18 points on 5-12 shooting from the field and a six for six night at the charity stripe.

 

 

 

Brady Sanders grabbed seven rebound and scored six points, and Krystle Henderson, a junior transfer from last years national champion Trinity Valley CC scored seven and had an assist. Texas came out hot and went on an 11-0 on the way to a 30 point lead midway through the second half. Texas improved to 36-4 in home openers and never trailed.

Texas whips Texas State

 

 

 

The Longhorns second contest of the year was a 96-42 victory over Texas State. The 54-point win was the largest for the Longhorns since 2010, and the largest in the Aston era.

 

 

 

Junior forward Nneka Enemkpali, a star from last years squad, got the 14th double-double of her career and led all players with 22 points and 17 rebounds. Celina Rodrigo scored a career-high 15 points, including 3-of-4 behind the arc coming off the bench, and four Texas players scored at least 14 points in the onslaught.

 

 

 

Texas took a 48-28 lead at the half and with 11 minutes left in the game had stretched the advantage to 74-38.

 

 

 

Texas travels to Albuquerque, N.M. to take on New Mexico next Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 8 p.m. Central.
