- Defense: 71 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 interceptions.
Strengths:
First of all, what stands out about Coffey is that he is not afraid to supply a big hit near the line of scrimmage. Furthermore, Coffey exhibits good awareness and is able to recognize a play’s development before it is fully realized. As a result, he is adept at getting a good jump on the football and showcases this trait often against screen passes.
Coffey also proved to be a great center fielder from the safety position during his high school football career. Evidence of this, Coffey tallied 14 interceptions throughout his time with Kennedale.
Needs Improvement:
While Coffey displays great athleticism already, spending time in Texas’s strength and conditioning program will help him to add strength to his frame. Consequently, I think that this added strength will enhance Coffey’s ability to wrap up the opponent’s ball carrier.
What I See:
The Longhorns have several enticing prospects in the secondary and I think that Coffey is one of them. Additionally, Coffey is one of the recruits that I am most excited to see from Texas’s 2021 recruiting class. Personally, I think that Coffey has a good array of skills to be a productive safety and a mainstay for the Longhorns on defense. Hopefully for Steve Sarkisian, Coffey will be a key factor in reinventing Texas’s DBU image.
