Football is one of those unique sports in America. It’s a sport with a season that is shorter than the offseason. This leads football to be largely based on perception. Every play, every mistake is magnified.

After giving up the most rushing yards in school history against BYU, being embarrassed by Ole Miss and then beating a less-than-good Kansas State team, the Longhorns go on the road after having 11 days off.  After Texas went into Ames on Thursday night on national television and gave such a lousy performance, you have to just say:

The Texas Longhorns aren’t fun to watch anymore.

I might not be a football coach, but I know when I see a quarterback with limited abilities. I know when I see a defense that lacks discipline. Texas obviously didn’t take Iowa State seriously and it showed. You only play football for 12 days in a 365 day year. If you can’t get up and play your best every game, then don’t play the game.

Any common sense football goes out the window when the Longhorns plays.  Anytime you think it’s obvious that a certain player should play more, Mack Brown doesn’t play him.  When you think it’s prudent for the squad to run the ball without their starting quarterback in the game, they end up passing the ball 45 times.

I guess I should be happy that Texas won but it’s just feels wrong.  It’s just isn’t fun watching the Longhorns play anymore under Mack Brown.

Other game notes:

  • Apparently Jalen Overstreet has assumed the role of DJ Monroe. Unbelievable how you can’t find ANY playing time for him.
  •

  • The referees didn’t blow this game, you have to understand the calls.
  •

  • Pass Interference: If you interfere with the receiver and you prevent an opportunity for the receiver to catch the ball, that is a penalty. Iowa State did that consistently all night.
  •

  • Play Stands: Means there is not clear video evidence to overturn the call. The ball was taken away from Johnathan Gray when forward progress was stopped. So the ball clearly wasn’t coming out on video so the call on the field stands.
  •

This was a tweet from former Texas A&M athletic director Bill Byrne:

Watched it happen too many times. When tu needs a call, they get it. Clearly a fumble. Call goes for tu.

Yeah, Texas A&M is still mad at Texas for some reason.

Next Game for the ‘Horns:  Texas will play Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout on Saturday, October 12th.

Let’s just go ahead and put the GIF out and get it over with………..
