After sweeping both Florida A&M and reigning National Champions, AVCA Ranked No. 25 Penn State, last weekend in the first round of the NCAA DI Volleyball Tournament, Texas will host the Regional Semifinals in Austin starting Friday. The No. 15 Indiana Hoosiers (25-7) will face the No. 3 Longhorns (25-3) at 11AM CST Friday at Gregory Gym.
Leading the Hoosiers is setter Teodora Krickkovic, recently named AVCA Midwest Region Freshman of the Year, who will be primed to orchestrate a high-powered offensive front against the Longhorns. Texas boasts starpower of their own including Libero Emma Halter who was named to the SEC All-Region Team this week, along with power hitters Torey Stafford, named AVCA Southwest Region Player of the Year, and Cari Spears who earned AVCA Southwest Freshman Player of the Year. Spears’ nomination is the third in a row for the program.
This season, Indiana has faced top twenty-five teams eight times with a record of 3-5; whereas Texas has faced 13 ranked opponents with only two losses. Today’s winner will advance to play the victor of perennial powerhouses, No. 10 Wisconsin (26-4) and No. 5 Stanford (29-4), on Sunday at Gregory Gym.
