Another day… another recruit for the Texas Longhorns.
The commitment train continues to roll through Austin.
After Andrew Beck took his unofficial visit to Stanford, just about every recruiting prognosticator had money on him becoming a Cardinal. Instead, the 6-foot-3, 235-pound linebacker from Plant High School in Tampa, Florida will wear burnt orange on Saturdays.
Beck became commitment No. 14 in the class of 2014 for the Longhorns, announcing his decision in front of an intimate crowd at his high school in Tampa. He held offers from Florida State, Miami, Stanford and Oklahoma to name a few.
Why Texas?
Beck says the Longhorns want him to play middle linebacker, a position he definitely wants to play in college. He also feels like him and defensive coordinator Manny Diaz have a good relationship – something that weighed into his decision to commit to the Longhorns.
Beck spent time in Texas as a youngster and even attended Mack Brown’s football camp in 2005 when he lived in Harker Heights.
Beck joins St. Augustine (LA) defensive tackle, Courtney Garnett, as the only out-of-state verbals in the 2014 group.
Beck’s commitment video can be seen below (3:45 mark).
