After dropping from #12 to #21 in the baseball rankings and riding a 5 game losing streak, Texas knew this was a game they had to win. It took a while but coach Augie Garrido’s players managed to put up 2 runs in the 7th inning which was enough to beat Houston Baptist University at Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns used an array of pitchers in the winning effort, including Austin Dicharry, Nathan Thornhill, John Curtiss, Hoby Milner, Parker French and Corey Knebel. HBU rode the arm of Dalton Schafer the entire game. Schafer gave up two runs in the 7th on RBI’s by Kevin Lusson and Jordan Etier. Parker French notched the win for Texas and Corey Knebel earned the save and struck out two in the top of the ninth.
The Longhorns take on an undefeated and 4th ranked Rice team this Friday in the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park. The game will be televised on the Longhorn Network and ESPN3.
