On their home court today, the #8 Texas Longhorns swept the Oklahoma Sooners for the second time this season.  Unlike their first meeting that went five sets, Texas was able to close the deal in three.

Dominating in the first set ending on a 10-1 run, freshman outside hitter and 2018 Big 12 Preseason Freshman of the Year Logan Eggleston (Brentwood, Tennessee) led her team in kills (6) the first set and totaled 10 for the match – giving fans a glimpse of the impact the 17-year-old will have on the team well into the future.  The defense ran as smoothly and effectively as the offense with freshman libero Sydney Petersen (Dyke, Iowa) tearing up the backcourt with digs, and the roofing company of freshman middle blocker Brionne Butler (Kendleton) and senior outside hitter Yassmeen Bedart-Ghani (Los Angeles, California) defending at the net.  Butler took the first set with a kill (25-15)

The second set wasn’t as pretty for Texas with Oklahoma often in the lead and the Longhorns scrapping to stay within reach.  Mired in errors and missteps, only after a net violation by Oklahoma did Texas reach the Sooners for the second time at 11.  Finding their biggest spread over the Sooners at 21-17, Texas won the set on a service error by Oklahoma (25-20).

To keep things interesting between the longtime rivals, Oklahoma jumped out over Texas 9-5 in the third set. Not until 21 – 19, did Texas not lag behind and appear to be on the brink of giving away the game. The Longhorns finally tied it up at 22.  The hometown crowd jumping to their feet as their team came within reach of the match against the Sooners to see their most valuable player, junior outside hitter and 2018 Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year Micaya White (Frisco) take her 5th and 6th kills, a team high of 13 for the match, to carry her team to match point.  With a kill by 2018 Preseason All-Big 12 selection Bedart-Ghani, the match went to Texas (25-23).

Still at home on Halloween, Texas will once again face Texas Christian who gave them a close call on the road earlier this season (7PM).
