In a game that tested their resilience, the second-ranked Texas Longhorns delivered yet another come-from-behind victory Tuesday night, rallying past Texas State 10-8 in front of 7,765 fans at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The win was ultimately the result of a six-run sixth inning, when Ethan Mendoza ripped a go-ahead two-run double to flip the script and send Texas to its third straight win after trailing. The Longhorns improved to 24-4 on the season and handed the Bobcats just their second loss in the last three weeks between the two programs.
Mendoza was the offensive star of the night, finishing with three extra-base hits and three RBI — capping his standout effort with a career-high sixth home run in the ninth. Aiden Robbins and Casey Borba also went deep, each blasting their team-best 10th home runs of the season. Robbins answered Texas State’s three-run first inning with a two-run jack of his own, while Borba’s mammoth 443-foot solo shot ignited the sixth-inning uprising. Carson Tinney added an RBI single and Anthony Pack Jr. punctuated the frame with a two-run base hit to push the Longhorns’ advantage to 9-5.
On the mound, Texas leaned on seven pitchers — including a trio of freshmen who delivered when it mattered most. Brody Walls earned his first collegiate victory with a scoreless sixth, striking out two, before fellow freshman Brett Crossland retired five of six batters to bridge the gap to closer Sam Cozart. Cozart needed just eight pitches to set down the side and lock down the save. As a staff, the Longhorns totaled nine strikeouts without issuing a single walk. Texas now turns its attention to a three-game road series at South Carolina, with first pitch set for 6:00pm on Thursday at Founders Park.
