Mack Brown’s final press conference played out this morning as the coaches met with the media before tomorrow’s Valero Alamo Bowl matchup between Texas and #10 Oregon.
Brown on the time leading up to the Game: Â Brown said it had been a good week and was complimentary on the Oregon staff, players, and city. Brown talked about keeping the team focused on the task at hand. Brown mention being excited for the game. When specifically asked about Pat Forde’s story on him being forced to resign [A story many attribute directly to Brown], the outgoing Texas coach would only say they’d been totally focused on Oregon.
Brown did mention he had asked his staff to not speak about other jobs and stick to Oregon. Brown also said they’d had a great run but came up short. Was proud of everyone in the Longhorn organization.
Mack declined to comment on Pat Forde’s story that the decision to resign was not Mack’s call. Said he’ll only comment that they’ve been totally focused on Oregon. Brown also said he was proud of everyone and had specifically asked coaches not to talk about other jobs.
On RB Malcolm Brown: Said he was ready to break out, and will be one of the best running backs in the country next season if he chooses to come back.
Brown on more questions about his Departure: Declined to speak about his buyout, said he was not coaching like it was his last game, and said both programs expect to play in the last game of the year.
On QB Tyrone Swoopes: He has done very well in bowl practices. Said he was proud of him and he had a bright future.
On some line up questions: Brown said Desmond Harrison did not make trip because of personal issues. He said Kennedy Estelle is also not at the game. Long injured OT  Josh Cochran will only play some short-yardage TE. Has moved  Trey Hopkins to RT and Sedrick Flowers to LG to compensate. Also said DT Hassan Ridgeway will not play due to an arm injury.
Brown on Injuries: They are  part of the game. Texas will miss at least eight top players in the bowl, and this is something [injuries] the new coach needs to address.
