Longhorns fall in AP Poll following the loss to Ohio State

The Texas Longhorns entered the 2025 season ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and led by Heisman favorite Arch Manning. But after a 14-7 loss to No. 3 Ohio State in Columbus, the Longhorns have fallen to No. 7 in the latest AP rankings released on Tuesday.

Ohio State, the defending national champions, now sit atop the AP Poll, receiving 55 of 66 first-place votes.

AP Top 10 Rankings – Week 2 Movement

  1. 1. Ohio State (↑2) – Took down No. 1 Texas in a defensive slugfest.
  2. 2. Penn State (↔) – Stayed steady after a dominant win over Nevada.
  3. 3. LSU (↑6) – Climbed after a gritty 17-10 road win over No. 4 Clemson.
  4. 4. Georgia (↑) – Extended its home win streak with a 45-7 rout of Marshall.
  5. 5. Miami (FL) (↑5) – Edged out No. 6 Notre Dame 27-24 in a thriller.
  6. 6. Oregon (↑1) – Quietly moved up after a solid opening win.
  7. 7. Texas (↓6) – Fell from No. 1 after a sluggish offensive performance.
  8. 8. Clemson (↓4) – Dropped after losing to LSU; QB Cade Klubnik struggled.
  9. 9. Notre Dame (↓3) – Lost a close one to Miami but showed resilience.
  10. 10. South Carolina (↑3) – Benefited from chaos above and a strong win.
