Already thin at the running back position due to injury, the Texas Longhorns will be without running back Jordan Whittington for 4-6 weeks, according to head coach Tom Herman. Whittington has suffered from the lingering effects of a sports hernia surgery he had in high school, and appears to have re-aggravated the injury in Saturday night’s season-opening win. Herman said Whittington tore the adductor in his groin area, and the staff is finalizing plans to get it fixed in Philadelphia.
“The groin was repaired in high school. It nagged him a bit in spring and summer but missed no time. He had an MRI a few weeks ago, and it was not torn,” said Herman.
Whittington caught 2 passes for 17 yards on Saturday night.
In his absence, Roschon Johnson has been elevated to #2 on the depth chart behind starter Keaontay Ingram. Additionally, linebacker David Gbenda has been moved to tailback.
Johnson rushed 7 times for 31 yards for an average of 3.1 yards per carry, while Ingram led the team in rushing with 78 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown.
The Longhorns will host #6 LSU on Saturday at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium at 6:30 PM.
