Last week Manny Diaz’s name was mentioned as a possible candidate for the Florida International head coaching position and today we learn that Bryan Harsin could be interested in a step-up, at least as far as job descriptions are concerned…
Been told that Texas OC Bryan Harsin is expected to interview for the ARK St head coaching job.

Would Harsin really leave the offensive coordinator post at Texas to take the head coaching job at Arkansas State? I find it hard to believe, but then again after this season nothing should surprise any of us. Not that Arkansas State is THAT bad of a gig, especially considering the team’s previous two coaches left for head coaching positions at SEC schools (Hugh Freeze to Ole Miss in 2011 and now Gus Malzahn who accepted the Auburn coaching job last week). Heck, the Red Wolves won the Sun Belt Conference the last two seasons and will play in their second consecutive GoDaddy.com Bowl on January 6, 2013.
Things have not gone exactly stellar in Austin on either side of the ball and Harsin, as quarterbacks coach, could very well see the future of this team better than anyone else. The team has an identity crisis at the quarterback position for the second straight year and with two redshirt freshman and heralded dual threat Whitewright product Tyrone Swoopes coming in next year, it could take some time to sift out the right guy for the job. Mack may have the support of Bill Powers and DeLoss Dodds, but another mediocre season and an angry fan base could ensure the demise of the entire cast of characters involved in the production of “Texas Longhorns Football.”
If Harsin leaves, expect Major Applewhite to be named in charge of the offense all by his lonesome. Keep your eyes and ears open on this one folks but when I think Red Wolf, I think beer.
