Your Expectations for Next Season

Completely wait and see. Don't know anything about Charlie or how many injured players will be well in 2014.

since i have correctly diagnosed the issue as being macks fault and lack of QB.... if we can find a QB...i am going with malzahn'ish expectations lol. kidding, kind of.

...Oh and I'm also expecting to curse less in front of my children.

This year it was mostly due to solid Malcolm Brown first down gains, followed by two horrendous Case McCoy passes and a punt.

I've explained to my kids that it's not Case's fault, but they still get nervous when they see the number 6.

I think 7-8 wins would be a great start. He needs time to recruit his players before he blows the doors off.

If UT can win 8-9 games, I will be thrilled. Key is not getting blown out in the other games. We had 5 losses this past season and were blown out in every single one of them

One and only one hope, to shed the label of being soft.

I do not care about W-L next year. I'll give Coach a year to build a staff, change the culture and weed out the weak-minded and find the ones who want to fight. I can't tell you how many times it made my blood boil when our QB was flat on his back and our o-line would mill around and not help him up or not take that stuff personally. I want my football players to be warriors again.

I want TEXAS FIGHT to mean something again.

To start with I think 8 wins is a reasonable expectation given the schedule they have, 8 straight conference games without a bye. I also expect to see a team that plays with an edge on both D & O and doesn't quit, a disciplined team, and a coaching staff that demands nothing but the best from the players and will settle for nothing less.

I would love to see 8 wins. With the early schedule we have that could be tough? Like Ellie said, shed the soft label. Our guys playing mean physical and hard every play. I want to see a coaching staff engaged, adjusting and coaching up our guys. Year 2 (2015) is when I think we'll see the big change. Remember Saban's first year at Bama. It takes more than 1 spring/summer to change a program with bad long term habits imbedded. It also takes 2 classes to really see the type of player that will be recruited.

I agree with the majority. A winning season is more than attainable, and just as important is regaining that tough mentality, hunger for the game, and accountability.

I've watched the Strong's intro. presser twice now and I'm so excited for the upcoming season. This guy is the real deal. Hook'em.

I'm more concerned with how we play in 2014 than wins and losses. . .

We could be a better team with a poorer record as the schedule will be harder not easier. . .

And our QB play may well be worse . .which is hard to type. ..

I really hope we steal some of Guz' offense. ..now granted we don't have a Marshall on the 2014 roster (heard the JUCO ranks are thin but if they aren't here for the spring. .it's largely moot anyway) but we do have 2 run first QBs. . .

Frankly. . .I like what we have on D and I really hope that Cedric Reed comes back. ..think he could be showcased for some BIG MONEY $$$$$$. . .I speculate he's a late 2nd/3rd today. . .good year and he's high 2nd low 1st. . .that is a huge swing in $$$$$$$. . .

My question to you is, what are your realistic expectations regarding this upcoming season's W-L record? Yes we'd all like to win out and bring home another NC-- and I hope that happens, but realistically what do you think?People's expectations for the HC position were all over the place. So I just wanted to gauge what the general consensus was here at HS.
No worse than 9-3 and be very competitive in every game. Field the Big 12's #1 ranked defense.

Let's set the bar high

I count 5 tossups. BYU, UCLA, OU, OSU, and BU. Go 3-2 or better and it's a successful season.
Really agree with this. Going 9-3 would be near all world with the talent relatively bare.

Lots of work to do to rebuild this program

Taking injuries out of the equation......

1. An improvement in a defense that actually showed itself well under GR gets you 7 wins

2. An offense with a pulse and less predictable tendencies can get you 2 more

3. A lucky bounce can get you another 1 or 2 (or an unlucky bounce can take them away)

For me the floor is 9 wins and a bowl game. But there can not be any blow outs.

Reading this thread it is obvious that Mack has wildly succeeded in dumbing down expectations at UT. If Malzahn can take 3-9 Auburn to the MNC game in one year playing a SEC schedule, why should UT's expectations be any less after an 8-5 and playing for the conference championship in the last game in the Big 12????? UT has the best returning talent in the Big 12. If UT does not win at least 10 and the conference in 2014, Patterson hired the wrong head coach.

Beat BYU and hold them to under 100 yards rushing! If that is accomplished I will start to believe that a toughness culture is truly being implemented and team will be competitive moving forward.
