Why wouldn't Korn/Ferry allow the process to reach completion?

With all the scuttle out there as to whether or not Steve Patterson has or has not interviewed anyone, it's a little curious to me that one report states the firm Korn/Ferry is offering a ringing endorsement for Louisville's Charlie Strong. Korn/Ferry has apparently saddled up to give assistance and or advice in the search for a head coach. It would seem to me that such a firm would allow for the process to run its course before offering any kind of support to one candidate or the other. Maybe someone out there who has conducted extensive interviews and hired a firm that recruits talent can tell me if this is normal to the process. FWIW

Im curious if they "recommended" anyone at all. I dont think that type of firm would be used to "recommend" a coach as they are prob mostly doing vetting, background checks, etc

Seems Chip is the only one to mention that, and that could mean several things

That could mean of the coaches they vetted he got their strongest score. Who were they asked to vet? would they have even spent time looking into Saban, Harbaugh, Fisher, etc? I doubt it

Since Patterson is the only Strong advocate it is probably no mistake the firm he hired toutes his candidate. No?

I look at it this way, Charlie Strong is the safety net. If all else fails, we have a built in safety net with Strong.

It's smart to cover your bottom first, and continue to work your ladder.

UT would have given KF a comprehensive set of criteria.......KF would then go and review all options based on that criteria and make a recommendation of who represents the closest fit. The client (UT) makes the final call. If KF suggested Strong its because, in their judgement, Strong filled the most "wants".

Korn Ferry is hired to simply provide the air of transparency and fairness. That way no one can come back and sue later.
