Why so much hate for Mora?

Tell me what Mora has done? His conference record in the little more than average PAC 12 has been 6-4, 6-3. Not very impressive. He doesn't even have a Top 40 recruiting class for next year. Please explain to me why he should be a candidate. I don't care what the national media says......
Exactly.

W A R H M (Would Almost Rather Have Mack

As far as Mora Jr., just checked his first two classes #17 his first year, which is tough you are usually behind the 8 ball on your first recruiting class, his second year #7 in the county. He also has a few recruits from Texas;-)

Mora Jr. not my #1, but a very solid hire IMO with the potential to be a freakin' awesome hire.

Seems he would just be John Mackovic Lite....been there done that.

I am afraid in a couple of years it would not be pretty.

23–16–1

That is the conference record of Nick Saban when he was the coach of Michigan State. He had 2 seasons that were 6-2 and 5-3 (not back to back) ,the rest had no more than 4 conference wins.

Once he went to a big program, LSU, he had a great record. So did he just become a great coach or was he always a great coach and got into program that matched is abilities?

Not saying that will happen with Mora, but records without context have little meaning. Mora is having to resurrect UCLA in a pretty strong football conference with the likes of Stanford, Oregon, etc. UCLA is not a hot name and even with USC being down the play second fiddle to them.

Just my take on your question, which is a valid one.

no offense but when people say doesn't move the needle or doesn't help recruiting I just dont see how thats known. Mora is a respected guy with extensive NFL experience
Texas shouldn't need a superstar flashy media name to recruit big in Texas. The most important thing to get back to pulling in big guys is WINNING. Texas has built in recruiting advantages but lack of success on the field has hurt that

Texas would get plenty of pub and praise nationally if they hired Mora....the views inside UT message boards dont reflect the national opinion about the guy

Im not saying he's my first choice, but some stuff lately just hasnt made sense to me
i said some of those things so let me expand... recruiting in Texas is already brutal. you have the sec, aggy, baylor, tcu with ties and recruiting skins on the wall. bringing in a guy not know to the THSF scene will take some time to develop. during that time our classes may dip and we will not have the on field success out of the gate... this while other programs tighten the grip. let only fsu, ohst, okie st come in and pluck a few away themselves. recruiting in Texas and in the south is a different beast. mora's sales pitch will not be better than any of the schools listed. a great point was made by a poster before me about his success is why usc was kiffined. if petey or a competent coach is still there mora is not even on the radar.

I get what you are saying. However right hires at the coordinator positions and position coaches can off-site that.

I think it's a mob mentality. If several scream boo, then eventually everyone else will too. Honestly, I don't know enough about the guy.

I've actually being saying for the last two months that I would love for Mora to join Texas. He isn't my #1 candidate, but when you get to the pack beyond the sexy four (Saban, Harbaugh, Gruden, Fisher), he is at or near the top for me. Mora is a high-energy, hard nosed, aggressive coach. He punched USC right in the mouth on the field and in recruiting as soon as he landed at UCLA. He has been a great recruiter, landing a top 10 and top 15 rivals class in his first two classes of recruits at UCLA. His class this year isn't as highly rated, but it is also a really small class (13) that would be top 20 by average ranking if you removed the size weighting.

As a little perspective, UCLA has been a moribund program since the mid 90's, going 64-63 in the 10 years before Mora arrived on campus. They won more than 8 games in a season only once in the 10 seasons before Mora's arrival, and he has thrown together a 9-4 and 10-3 season, back to back. For those not familiar with UCLA, they have historically been one of the cheapest programs in the Pac 10 / 12, loathe to spend money on facilities and on assembling an assistant coaching staff. Mora has pushed to change the culture at UCLA, which has been impressive to watch. I think he would flourish at Texas, especially if he was given the bankroll to hire a killer staff. I think he would drive the type of cultural change that needs to happen at Texas.

Mora is smart, well spoken, and used to the being in the spotlight from his NFL tenure. He also has network / analyst experience with the NFL Network. These two pieces are important for the Texas coach, because we demand so much from the head man with respect to fundraising, donor relations, the LHN, etc. There is more pressure on the Texas coach off the field arguably than any other job in the country. Here too, Mora would excel.

Finally, I will add that he is extremely well respected in the coaching circles and with cfb analysts. I don't really care what the analysts say, but the coaches tend to carry a little more weight with me...

At 25 after the opening hour of Cowherd this morning, Colin speaks highly of Mora. Says he's really intense. No non-sense guy. What Texas needs to become more energetic.

UCLA fan base is light years down on the meter from Texas. I can warm up to Mora more than I am now for Franklin, Strong, Briles.

Mora is known to be a demanding hard ass at times. Well polished and lots of coaching experience. Still pretty young and would prob surround himself with a big time staff. Is really good friends with Lane Kiffin

Im not seeing the "Wine and Cheese" type comparison to Mackovic IMO

Interesting. Usually when guys start to withdraw from consideration that means something is about to go down.

Not saying it is happening in this case, but Patterson did the same thing before he was hired.
