Why not Major?

You think Major is better than Watson? Really? Come now, lets be serious..

I suggested the same at the bottom of this page on another thread. Prepare to be strongly disagreed with! :)

Major is learning on the job. What has he done to justify being OC at Texas? Plus, he has Jamail as his attorney and is tied to what has been wrong at Bellmont. We can do a lot better. As much as everyone wanted to make him into something special he is not. Wyatt is more qualified to be OC than Major.

I do not want Major....Lets get it over with: Watson as OC (let Strong be responsible), Searles as OL coach, Porter as RB coach, chambers as TE coach (Strong is responsible), Watson as QB coach (Let Strong be responsible).

Defense (Strong is responsible)

No. He burned some bridges with the players that almost cant be rebuilt.
I agree, he should walk, but can you elaborate on those burned bridges? Do you know of a link or anything I can read?

Actually I think Major did an ok job considering his qb issue. There is a lot of Major hate and it is, IMO, way overblown. I'm going to to support Strong. If the OC doesn't do the job Strong will make a change

Last week I thought we could do better. Today...I'm not so sure. Can we do better?? Who are we going after??

Frost from Oregon is still an option from what I read earlier today.

Not going to burn the kids sorry. Eventually what was said/done will get out. Its nothing that would get a guy fired or anything, nothing illegal, but the damage was done.

I'm in favor of moving past Major Applewhite as a coach. His offense appeared to me to be similar to Greg Davis' schemes/plays. I know this year the offense was severely limited after Ash was injured but still, the offense was very predictable and the running plays were slow developing. Our receivers rarely got separation in their routes. I acknowledge the major part of the issue may be the player but Major was in charge of the offense.

Bottom line, I don't know what special skill Major brought to the table.

People hate Watson because message boards tell them to hate Watson.

I'm really convinced people who hate the Watson hire really don't know why. But to fit in, they hate it as well.

Look I am a big fan of Major, the player and recruiter. I am not a huge fan of him as a coach.

While he has running backs coach I thought he did a great great job of getting awesome running backs. However it never seemed they lived up to their potential when he was the RB coach. The Porter comes one and I noticed a difference in all of our RBs. Granted that could be due to them all being a year older and maybe it is just in my head.

While he was the OC and play caller this year, I thought he really got out coached most of the time. I know, I know he was limited with Case and I agree that hurt him. However just in play selection it seemed like he was going away from what worked and instead of forcing our will on teams with running, we would completely abandon it.

You the lackluster debut as the play caller with the reports of how he treated the players at the end and the affair, I think it is time for him to get a break from Texas and start over a bit. He needs it and I do wish him luck. He may well have a bright future as OC and eventually HC. I just think right now is a good time for him to get away.
