Who would be your top choices to replace Mack

Agree. Saban is not a realistic choice. Steve Spurrier might want to join a big school like Texas though he is getting old. However, age hasn't prevented Bill Snyder from leading KSU to repeated wins over Texas. Even if it's only 3-4 years, it would still be better than 12 years with little to show with an imposter ... like Mack. (Has anyone counted the number of Big 12 conference titles under Mack Brown against that of Bob Stoops????)
The game is constantly changing and evolving.. Young is now the way to go now... I like Miles. Would be a good choice. I just dont see us prying someone away from another football factory in the south.. I just hope the UT ADMINISTRATION takes their time and does it right.

Might agree Will, but name the young guy who is winning the titles? Like a fine wine, age necessary for coaching. Not old, but aged..

I cant get this Gruden thing. Someone tell me why that would be a fit?
The only reason Gruden could be a fit(which I, for the record, do not support) is because of his direct NFL ties. Whether we like it or not the greatest driving force for so many kids is "what school has the greatest chance of getting me into the League. I think he would do great for recruiting for that reason. He is on TV all the time and is well respected in the League. I dont think he is good for the position and would not like to see him considered but I do think that there are a couple former NFL coaches that I would like to consider... Lovie Smith and Mike Singletary(dude is extremely intense and fired up). I think, from what I have seen from them on the sidelines and interviews that they would be good for the kids motivation wise and intensity wise. Singletary would def be more defense minded and Lovie also managed one of the better defenses during his time in the League. These arent names I have heard at all, just names I think could really be positive for the program on a lot of different fronts.

I think Saban is a pipe dream. Why would he leave Alabama? From what I have read, Muschamp has no love for Austin. He felt like he was lied to, and I doubt he would return. I would love Les Miles, but again I don't think you could pry him out of LSU?
Out of curiosity why do you like the idea of Miles? I dont like him from an off the field standpoint(letting his QB punt a kid in the face and come back, allowing his RB face zero consequences for violating his probation by blindsiding a drunk kid on video and just for fun). I used to like his coaching style but I think he is getting a bit old and also allowing his nickname(Mad Hatter) to get the best of him. I think he runs a program that has zero rules or guidelines and that is why he wouldnt come to UT. He would have to run a relatively clean program and Im not sure he can do that. He hasn't had control of his program in years. I love winning but I dont support winning if it means allowing the reputation of the program to be shitted on. Just my opinion...

I'm not a fan of miles either he never has a good qb and his team is constantly getting in legal trouble

They are also consistently winning and I think the culture here would be more conductive to keeping his guys out of the shiz

Saban is everyones first choice (apparently that of the BMD's at Texas) but I don't look for him to come. Saw someone mention Les Miles. No f'ing way. Dude is a complete moron. Muschamp is also popular. Could be a possibility I guess. Charlie Strong would do well I think, as well as James Franklin from Vandy (although I kinda doubt Texas hires a black head coach for whatever reason). Mora at UCLA is a pretty good one as well.

I don't see Peterson leaving Boise State since he's been offered high profile jobs in the past and has turned them down quickly (although Texas money/prestige has never called his name). Gruden would sink the program farther down than we currently are. Extremely overrated head coach and even more so as a "QB guru" as many like to label him. I don't see Shaw leaving Stanford either, its his alma mater.

Patterson has probably had too many problems with his own little program recently to still be strongly considered. Word on the street is that Joe Jamail isn't even going to consider having Briles name on the list so he appears out as well.

Larry Fedora's name will be popping up as well. Seems to be a pretty good coach. Pat Fitzgerald @ Northwestern has turned that program around and he's pretty damned hard nosed about football being a former linebacker (and a pretty damn good one too).

Whoever it is will have to be better than Mack at X's and O's and be as personable as Mack as well with the constraints of the LHN and the media constantly being around.

For those of you who think Saban is a pipe dream, why? Compare the 2....

Austin v Tuscaloosa - winner Austin

UT vs Bama facilities - winner Texas

If Saban wins a third straight National title, what else does he have to prove there? How much easier is the competition in the Big XII vs the SEC?

And, the rumor is that our big donors are willing to try and give him $8-$10 MILLION a year!!!

We would basically double his salary to come to Austin. Why not bring him? Even if he weren't here for more than 10 years, don't you think it would be worth it? He could bring his assistants, his coaching philosophy, his methods and his game plans.

No more Fat Dog Madden

No more buddies of Mack holding on to positions where they aren't qualified

No more friendly coaching. I want a no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners, kick ass kind of coach.

I say offer him whatever he wants, and get him here.

He may have said that he isn't leaving Bama, but he said the exact same thing about LSU before leaving for the NFL.

Face it.....money talks. And if Texas throws enough at him, he will come.

You also have to remember that Bama also has quite a bit of money as well (no, not as much as Texas of course) but they would turn it into a bidding war before letting him go without a fight.

I actually read something the other day regarding some business deals he was involved in (as an investor only) that went bad and some creditors had zeroed in on Saban to recoup lost monies. No idea if that's true or not but supposedly there is some heat of some kind on him around Tuscaloosa. I wouldn't mind Saban at all, I just don't think it happens for whatever reason.

I can pretty much guarantee that Bo Pelini's name won't be on the list of possible coaches for Texas. That I feel strongly about. :)

Bo has had a couple of rough days this week.

Pelini is going to get his ass handed to him by Osborne before its over. Hes about as likely as Bobby Petrino

Pelini would curse Bellmont out and the fans without regard. Let's hire him!

My choice is Charlie Strong. Anyone who can turn a Louisville program around can do the same at Texas.

I prefer Steve Spurrier to all other realistic options except perhaps Gruden.

Texas' long standing lack-back culture and contentment with mediocrity needs a violent kick in the rear end by people like Steve Spurrier.

Spurrier has the guts to slap incompetent players and impotent duds like Greg Davis, Mack Brown, DeLoss Dodds, and the so-called BIG CIGARS.

More importantly, Spurrier knows how to coach top notch QBs. He doesn't BS or clap like a clown when players are making pathetic mistakes, unlike Brown.

So Oliver Luck's name is popping up in speculation about who the next AD will be (next year). He received his law degree from UT and is a Texas guy - I could see him as an option.

Luck has been mentioned off and on for a while now. Was the one time leader apparently and then things seem to quiet down about him and now they are once again picking up again.

What Im hearing off the rumor mill is no Bowlsby, but....

Joe Castiglione (sp) from OU

Tom Jurich from Louisville

Thoughts?

Castiglione could do the job. Hopefully Jurich could bring along Charlie Strong if they wanted to go that route.
