You will like it there. I cant remember if the Hobo Depot is still open, but if it is and the right cooks are in there the burgers are top notch.  Little bar off the loop there. Good people and ice cold beer.

Id stay out of the bars in Bertram unless you carry a weapon of some kind.

Spent so much time partying at the Back Room (East Riverside), I should probably claim that as a residence. My GPA would have been much higher had I avoided the Back Room. Understand it's not there anymore...a real Austin treasure it was...some rollicking times on Saturday nights definitely were had there!

Thanks for the info.  We haven't had time to explore as much of the area as we would like.  Our biggest reason for choosing that area was for the schools.
