...ambiguity, confusion, nuances, discombobulation... so many views, and yet no clear answers....

what is happening gents? for isn't this the strangest thanksgiving holiday ever. everyone is now becoming quite "giddy" and yet... the special day hasn't even arrived yet.

MACK BROWN IS GOING TO RETIRE!

you know it, i know, we all know it... right? but what happens next? one thing that seems to be most certain, is that there is going to be mass chaos... head coaching candidates, recruits, asst. coaching candidates, bmd's vying for position, longhorn nation, etc... get the picture?

what is the timeline for the new head coach to officially takeover in lieu of the bcs bowls etc...? what kind of timeline does the new head coach have in regards to reigning in new prospective recruits... that are by this time, probably going "haywire" in regards to media over sensationalism...

for whom amongst our many "scholars" shall take the initiative to try and offer some actual comprehensive answers to this forthcoming chaos.... ANYONE?

I'm of the opinion that Texas will go after and get Will Mushchamp. It's the most logical and seamless transition to make. Do we really think Coach Boom is any less a good coach today than he was last year when he led the Gators to an 11-2 record and a Top 10 finish? Florida has been ravaged by injuries this year. Mushchamp brings that no BS attitude we need on the 40. He and his family love Austin and this season's demise in Gainesville would make his exit a lot easier. I don't see the Gators winning both of their final games to become bowl eligible, particularly since one of them is Florida State. So, essentially we could have Coach Boom on campus and recruiting in mid-December. It just makes sense to me that if he were good enough for Coach-In-Waiting he's good enough to replace Brown. He'll have to make some tough decisions regarding the coaching staff, but I don't think that will be a problem for him. Now, if you can't get Saban, he may be the next best thing. FWIW

Mushchamp is ok with me, however he would be on a short leash and I don't know if he could turn it around fast enough to satisfy the masses.

Make Saban say no to 8-10 million per year. My only concern is having to go through the hiring process in 5-6 years when he decides to retire (hopefully, with 3 or 4 more NC's). If not Saban, hire an up and coming coach like Chad Morris, Gus Malzahn, or Charles Strong.

I am not sure about the scholar part and I am most definitely not an insider but here are a few thoughts on the time line.

All this is assuming that Mac announces his retirement after the Baylor game. If UT happens to loose to Tech I would guess there is a possibility that Mac might announce his retirement the following week which might push up the time table a week or so.

As of today I don't think we have heard that a search committee has been formed but that could be as simple as announcing that the same group that was responsible for the AD search will handle the HC search and we already know that IMG has been engaged. So lets say that puts us at December 13th (The Friday following the Baylor Game) and they are ready to start "officially" conducting a HC search.

Now in my opinion this is where it starts to get a little bit dicey and a lot depends on how far along all the back channel discussions are. If they offer an NFL HC the position the last week of the NFL regular season is the 29th so it might be possible under this scenario that a HC is announced during the Christmas to New Years time frame.

If they decide to go the current college coach rout I think it might depend on the bowl game the coach will be involved in, and this is just a guess. If the coach is involved in a BCS Bowl, I would think he would wait until after the bowl which could be anywhere from the 3-4th or the 8-10th (if the coach is in the MNC game). If the coach is involved in a lesser bowl the time frame might be moved up to the same time frame as if they went with an NFL coach. So at the end of the day anyway you slice it I think we will have a new HC by the 10th of January.

I would be on the edge of my seat for a long while, wondering if we get a present from St. Nick, or coals in our stocking. See what I did there? Yes I know an answer from him would be till after Christmas. Somebody posted on TOS, this is all a smokescreen to bring in Meyer. Which I would be good with that as well.

I'd expect us to move as fast as is possible with the bowl game schedule to be respected, but in order to try and hold the key cogs of the 2014 recruiting class. I'm sure the existing staff will work on that or mostly the most valued guys like Major, Searels, Giles and Wyatt. Bo Robinson may be in good shape if we hire Saban unless there's more to the story of him leaving bama to come to Texas.
