What if OU hangs with or, uh, beats Alabama?

How high would you be on Saban then? I understand that this is a hypothetical and I also understand that OU will likely lose by a wide margin but just curious.

To some degree I think Nick Saban was one of those lucky people who find themselves in the perfect place at the perfect time. for the most part he's been very fortunate in who his teams have drawn in the bowl games and of course some of the circumstances (Colt).

Though he would be the biggest hire by far, and would have a seismic impact on recruiting off the bat, I'm not sure he's the long term best option for our program.

I think my list would be 1) Malzahn, 2) Fisher, 3) Briles.

I know this won't be a popular post but I imagine it would gain traction if OU, who is terrible, made a game of it. It will be interesting to watch.

I think he could withstand the loss against Oklahoma in most people's eyes, including mine. He just has way too much to offer. The impact he'd have on recruiting alone makes the program almost self-sufficient. I see this as a great opportunity to bring in Saban, let him pick his staff and then name one of those young developing coordinators the CIW.

I don't think the "stability" that the CIW title gives is worth the hassle. Give whomever the coach may be free reign over his staff, and until he does enough to merit being fired or retires on his terms, then worry about who the next coach will be. A cohesive team of coaches will be the biggest advantage that we can get (without dividing the locker room).

Bama fans would be in meltdown mode if OU beats them....might even make it easier for Saban to leave

The way they acted after Auburn you're probably right. They'd want him to go.

by the way, I would love it if Saban came. I don't think he will and maybe that's why I'm sorta more prepared and accepting of other options.

+1

If any Texas coach blew a game like Saban threw away the Auburn game, 90% of all poster on all UT bulletin boards would want his head. If he can't beat Stoops with the talent advantage he has now, why would we want him?

Because 1 game does not make a resume. Because his kicker missed 4 FG kicks in the Auburn game. Because they guy has won how many MNC the last 4 years?

he did win 3. and he beat who was on his schedule. but he also played a neutered Texas team, a plodding LSU team (that already beat him, and that year Alabama only beat 3 teams - I think - with winning records) and a pretty bad Notre Dame team. It sounds absurd to argue being that he did in fact win the 3 but I've felt all along things would have been different in '09 with Colt, and in '11 had he played any of Oklahoma St, Oregon or Stanford. Look what A&m did and imagine those other teams that actually play a little defense. And he had his hands full with A&M again this year and their defense is atrocious.

That Bama kicker was something, wasn't he?!Missing so many FGs. My friends and I were all wondering if that guy was connected to some bookie. But the final FG attempt was an error. Someone on the Bama team should have seen that lone Auburn receiver running toward the goal post before the kick and thought about the consequence if the kick was short.
