Not to read too much into coaching staff salaries, but I had a couple thoughts after seeing them.
Our "assistant coach for offense and QBs" is making a chunk more than our OC. Since I've never really understood Watson's title and we have the complication that Wickline needed a buyout if he wasn't OC - I struggle to understand who's offense it really is. Salaries don't answer the question definitively, but this doesn't support the view that Shawn Watson will be focusing on the QBs and Wickline will be THE guy for everything else.
I really thought Wickline would have cost us more. I assumed they probably paid big money to bring him to Texas. He won't be starving to death, but a bump from $462k (at OSU) to $575k isn't an offer that can't be refused. It's actually good to know he's not just here for the money.
Both Bedford and Watson had their salaries doubled from $400k and $325k to $800k and $650k respectively. They were about the first on board and got the biggest paycheques.
All in all there's nothing outrageous, but I thought it was interesting. I'd still like to know whether there was a general budget they were working with when the hiring was happening. It looks like they ended up pretty close to last year's, so that may have been the goal. If CS was always set on bringing his OC and DC, they may have spent a good chunk of the budget before they looked past Louisville.
