At least that's what I gather from reading this article.  But hey, UT will be getting an Apple store.......  SMH

hey, this'll give us a chance to do what J. Frank Dobie wanted to do with the tower.  He wanted to lay it on it's side and make a 100 hol'er out of it.

J. Frank Dobie is cheering mightily from the grave. he hated the Tower.

great minds, Slim!

Select quotes... granted it's satire (it is, isn't it?!)

We had been looking for the right fusion of the authentic Austin vibe and modern urban amenities...

[ good contemporary socio-ubran dictionary babble ]  B)

English major Matt Inis yelled from the back of the room, “Are you people out of your [expletive] minds? You’re putting a Bikram yoga studio in the [expletive] Tower?†Inis was promptly removed from the event and the announcement continued.

[ outstanding!!! ]

Officials also confirmed that as part of the change, the Tower will no longer be lighted burnt orange but instead will be replaced with what the developers described as “a nightly light show and dazzling spectacle.† :o

[ trick it up, no lack of bling here ]

Other April Fool's joke today is that LCRA is buying an iceberg and having it shipped to Lake Travis.  Plans call for the iceberg to be completed melted (which will fill Lake Travis up) by July 3rd; just in time for the extended 4th of July weekend.

I thought the joint City of Austin/UT mall around the Tower was a good April Fool's joke; only thing possibly more believable would be that the regents decided to sell the Tower to the City for a condo project; proceeds to go the UT Athletic program for increased salaries and additional personnel.
