UT Chancellor stepping down

Can someone give me a quick rundown on the importance and implications of this? Pardon my ignorance on the situation.

Im Republican and I wouldnt have voted for Perry again. I dont think many of us would. Greg Abbott can't get in that office fast enough.

I'm conservative and an Aggie and I am in agreement that Rick Perry is not good for anybody that wants our schools to prosper, secondary or higher education.

Governor Douchebag gets to appoint an interim, but the members of the BOR need to be confirmed by the Senate, so whatever aggy he appoints will be handicapped in the amount of additional damage Douchebag can try to inflict upon the UT system.
Now, if we can only impeach Wallace Hall.
"We?" I was not aware that you are in the Legislature.

Take the politics elsewhere, please. The absence of Ultra liberals v. Tea Party diatribes is one of the reasons I like HS.

The impeachment of Wallace Hall is something in which everyone who cares about UT-Austin has a part. Had the alumni not demonstrated support for Bill Powers, things may never have progressed to the point they are at today. I say "we" because continuing being vocal about our dislike of the political meddling into the mission of UT-Austin is imperative. We can't allow the academic independence to become an issue that loses support over time to allow the political operatives to have their way. When it comes to rebuilding the UT system BOR, politics crosses into other aspects of UT. It isn't an ideological matter; a belief that what Coach Strong is trying to do is no different than what Bill Powers is trying to give every student who studies at UT - an opportunity to do something that will positively affect the rest of their life. I'm not advocating any political ideology nor am I politicking for or against any candidate. I'm saying that if want meddling to the academic independence of UT to be a "third rail" of Texas politics, "we" have to make sure politicians remember what happened the last time it was tried.

And, by the way, it's almost impossible for a thread discussing the service of a political appointee not to touch on politics in some fashion.
