Tight End Optimism?

I love ya Aaron, but that story didn't change our current roster. Made me think Charlie prolly had a big WTF moment when he got to the TE position at Texas.

Whiteley is the most ready-made combination of blocking & pass catching on the roster. I would guess that he's seeing plenty of personal attention from Chambers.

You may be correct that our current roster does not have much TE talent. However, I feel the past coaching staff didn't place much importance in the TE position. That will not be the case with this coaching staff.  The guys we do have were high rated recruits. MJ McFarland does have the talent to really have an impact in the passing game if he can play to his potential.

It may be by committee, but I believe at the end of season we will have good production from the position.

This was the best line in the story:

Strong did mention that MJ (McFarland) “had an outstanding springâ€

Okay, so as of today our TE depth looks like this ranking:

Swaim

Whiteley

McFarland

Beck

Who am I missing?  Losing Daniels hurt, especially if CFS wanted to use 2 TE's.

Swaim is a solid blocker, he should be on the field alot.

But do we even have one guy who can make two consecutive receptions?

I remember a quote from someone in the last week or two (sorry but forget who said it) to the effect that McFarland will make a nice catch every so often, draw some audible ahs from the crowd, and everyone quickly forgets he dropped 6 in a row before that one.

It is amazing we have been so shitty at this one position for so long.  Amazing

And, the thing is, Ash needs at least one of them as an outlet, a go-to guy.  Having just one player who could fill this role might mean the difference in Ash taking unnecessary hits.

I remember reading that too. That's why I liked Coach Strong's comment that MJ is having had an outstanding spring.

Charlie Strong doesn't seem like the kind of coach that will publicly praise a player unless he deserved it.
