Ok, let's talk about this. I don't do NFL because Tony Romo QBs the Cowboys. So anyone with NFL knowledge - can you tell us what San Fran has in front of them as far as chances at playoffs and such, dates, etc.

The talking has been productive and apparently the chances have escalated, so I'm just trying to figure out the "how this happens" because my guy did not talk about that so I'm left wondering.

There's a poster on a private board I'm a member of who is saying similar news, and apparently his contact is as good as it gets. A couple of posters backed him up on the source he has. So the fact that I'm hearing it from other places is kinda telling, too. That guy said something like "this time it's being done the right way" which said to me that UT officials are either leading the talks or heavily involved.

Oh no, not this again. All we will do is get him a HUGE raise and look like fools. Again.

JIM HARBAUGH WILL NEVER COACH THE TEXAS LONGHORNS. You all are just setting yourselves up for even more soul crushing.

im not buying into this again..my heart cant take it..0 chance this happens..stay calm lol stay calm

Do I dare allow myself to think this could really happen...of course...nnnnn....ooooo.....YES! I'm in...why not? After last week I'm so punch drunk why worry about a few more possible body-blows. If not Saban, heck, even with Saban still in the pic I'm not sure I wouldn't prefer Jim anyway. One thing is for sure, the culture would definitely change. Pretty sure the "soft" label would not exist.

I think they would be slated to play the Seahawks in Seattle (tough place to win) January 11th or 12th in the Divsional Round if they make it out of the wildcard round the week before. i

harbaugh fixn get paid......by san fran..
He's had a raise/contact extension in front of him for months . . . that he refused to sign.

Has issues with his boss. Misses the college game/atmosphere. Intrigued by Texas.

just like saban was sitting on his raise...trust me i would love this more than saban but its not happening..i hope your right and patterson is pursuing this cause that says alot about who he wants...

49ers are currently the #6 team in the NFC playoffs. However, they are all but locked in at 10-4. Zona is on their heels at 9-5. SF plays @ Zona to finish the season but even if the Cardinals won, I believe SF would still go to the playoffs. H2H would be 1-1, but SF would have the better division record.

Only way for SF to miss the playoffs would be for Zona to win out and SF to lose out. For this to happen:

SF has to lose to Atlanta(home) and @Arizona.

AZ has to win @Seattle and vs SF.

Basically, its a long shot that Harbaugh won't coach at least one round in the playoffs and probably 2, 1st round matchup would be with Philly or Chicago, 49ers would probably be favored against either of those teams.

Just released a statement according to OB

That he is not interested

Obviously it doesn't mean everything but it could.

Tomlin did as well

How do so many here "know this is not happening" ?

Curious. The op simply passed on that it could based on info he has gotten.

Even if they're in the playoffs is there really anything preventing from stepping down and letting someone else coach? I don't think so.

Thanks for posting that. Much more clear now. I suppose we have to root for whoever the 49ers play, which, as a Cowboys fan seems to come quite naturally.

That use to rub me wrong, too. But if you're ok with someone happy about your news or in agreement with it, then you have to be ok when someone is not. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It is always helpful when the naysayers actually make a case for what they are saying, though.

In my case, I don't have a dog in the fight. I'd be THRILLED with a Harbaugh hire. He's easily my favorite (post-Saban). But I also know Texas will make a great hire even if his name isn't Harbaugh. I'd be fine with a couple different candidates they're looking at.

This is going to be really interesting to watch develop considering the trajectory of the remainder of San Francisco's season. I would love for Jim to be hired, but the playoff scenarios give me pause.
