THS Football – Note of Interest

As many of you know, I'm from Daingerfield and have been working on a book regarding the '83 Tigers run to the state title and record setting year.

Oddly enough, through this the head coaching/athletic director's job at Daingerfield became open when the HC left for a bigger school.

Meanwhile, former Daingerfield HC from the '83 team, Dennis Alexander, had just settled his case with Troup ISD where he won a nice settlement. So Alexander was suddenly available.

Tomorrow night (Monday), the DISD school board will narrow their candidate list to three and by next Friday, will name their new head coach. Dennis Alexander is one of the applicants for the job.

A group of former students and players has formed and is making a push to get DA returned to Daingerfield. Letters, emails, petitions, etc., have been going on for the past three weeks.

Who else has done this? Tom Kimbrough once left Plano to take the job at Henderson. He was welcomed back with open arms and now has his name on Plano's stadium.

The great GA Moore had three different stints at Pilot Point and two different stints at Celina.

So its been done and done successfully.

I have heard that local politics may be an obstacle here. I hope thats not the case.

Well, this blew up big time.

Dennis Alexander was one of the final three created by a search committee. Superintendent removed DA from the list and will present the board with two candidates.

BS move on Supt's part and the town is in an uproar about it. Social media is blowing up about it.

There's a 5-2 count on the board in favor of hiring DA back. They're already confused as to why they've been removed from the process so far when two years ago, they created the committee themselves. This time, they found out by text.

There's a rat in this. So stay tuned.

No. Her name will not be in my book. She wasn't a part of the story and the book does not look this far into the future.

The book more or less ends at the end of the '83 season.

I am told the Supt. will be fielding a FOIA request soon. A friend of mine who is ex-law enforcement intends to file it. Apparently and allegedly, Supt intervened in a case at the Jr High where a coaching assistant/trainee was fired for having an improper relationship with a student. Problem is, she did not notify law enforcement or involve them at all. 

She's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but she is very much a tool.

By the way, the board hired a coach named Nelson. He was on the previous staff and apparently, was instrumental in getting our previous HC run off to take an OC position.

Superintendent created a committee with three existing coaching staff members on it.

Now tell me, aside from being a buffoon move – who wouldn't relish the opportunity to pick their next boss? I'm picking the guy who keeps me employed.

Daingerfield is just hopeless. Until they get the clowns out of control, it will be a continued plunge for that program.

Seems your trustees don't understand who holds the power.   All stats below from Texas Education Agency.
