After another first round loss in the NCAA tournament, her fourth year in a row, Gail Goestenkors was out at Texas. It was time, she said, and that no one at Texas put pressure on her to leave.

"It's time to bring in some new leadership and some new energy and help this program get to where I know it can go," Goestenkors said.
While I don't expect Mack Brown to admit they he is tired and out of ideas, it would be nice to see someone in charge admit there is a problem. Instead today we got UT president Bill Powers bullshit statement.

"Now that the Longhorn football team has finished its regular season, there has been an increase in media speculation about Coach Mack Brown's future," Powers wrote on his blog, Tower Talk. "I'd like to state unequivocally that Coach Brown has my full support as well as the support of Men's Athletics Director DeLoss Dodds. Put succinctly, Mack Brown is and will remain the Longhorns' head football coach."
Even Brown acknowledged there is a problem with the program.

"If you'd ask me if I am happy with three years of non-BCS games I would say no.'' Brown said Thursday.
In this three year period Texas is 21-16 and has not beaten a team that finished the regular season in the BCS top 25 over that time period. The Longhorns were 8-4 in 2012 with a 42-point loss to Oklahoma as well as losses in their last two games.

Not to be outdone by one bullshit statement Powers piles on about how Mack Brown is a great guy.

"Coach Brown restored Texas' winning tradition," Powers wrote. "He embodies the Texas character, is a superb ambassador for The University of Texas, and runs a program that is both winning and clean, a program that all alumni and fans can and should be proud of. Mack cares about the young men on the team as people, as students, and as players, in that order, and he models the kind of leadership that will serve our players for the rest of their lives."
So I am supposed to put up with the losses and being humiliated because Coach Brown runs a clean program? Not quite depressed enough I read the following crapola from Mack's own mouth. Analysis to follow:

"The process started three years ago and 2010 was a very poor year," Brown said, referring to the 5-7 record in 2010: "We coached poorly and we played poorly most of it there were some changes made at that time. And [in 2011] we really stepped up defensively and did well and I'm proud of that. We were inept on offense quite often but we started running the ball better.
"This year we have been much better on offense and we were inept on defense and the last five weeks we have played much better defense. I really believe we are headed in the right direction."
Analysis: We sucked in 2010. We sucked on offense in 2011 but played better on defense. In 2012 we reverted to 2010 on defense and played much better on offense.

but...hey not to worry Longhorn fans. Mack is convinced we have turned the corner. I guess losing the last two weeks to TCU and KSU(for the fifth year in a row) are reasons to rejoice? Yes sir, watching Ash against TCU and McCoy against KSU really have me fired up. The recruiting department is so fired up by these two young guns they are on speed recruit mode while visiting every JUCO QB in America.

My UT insanity meter is spiking and unfortunately the powers to be seem to be are talking about Mack's "character." I am like that guy in the Charlie the Tuna commercial. I want tuna that tastes good not that has taste. Give me an evil asshole as head coach who wins. I am tired of the nice guy who makes excuses and loses.

I understand your frustration, but I'm not ready to embrace the Sabans, Bielemas or Pelinis of the world. If we can get a guy like Chris Petersen or David Shaw? Sure, I say go for it. Hell, even Applewhite may be an improvement at this point.

We are still Texas and this is one of the most sought after jobs in the NCAA..but..beware I remember a time when the other UT orange was relevant and with Agie going to the SEC and then finding Johnny Football it is not out of the question that a few more years with "Good Guy Mack" we may go the way of Tennessee.

I don't think FSU or PS wanted to become the mess they became but backing Bowden and Joe Pa ruined their programs.

I use the FSU and PS as an analogy of what happens when character is more important than winning and the misguided belief that we can't have both.

Mack's time is over and I am saddened with the news that not only is the University president not concerned, he is a fan. I am ragged all the time for being a Cowboy's fan. Jerry and Powers have the exact same problem. They both worship money and Mack brings in money. Until the money starts to ebb nothing will change and like the Cowboys we will become the laughing stock of College football.

Don't think it can happen? Keep believing in Mack Brown.

Powers has always been a Mack guy just like Deloss. I think we need to assume Mack will be back next year and we need to prepare for a potential season that might not meet expectations. I am a trigger guy and react negatively immediately following a loss but JB makes a good point. As trite as it may sound, there really are not a ton of guys out there that could fill the potential coaching void at a program like Texas.

I would trade in Mack and Diaz for Patterson and Randy Shannon in a heartbeat. The character and clean nature of a program is invaluable but so is winning.

I am certainly not willing to sacrifice the cleanliness of our program. Youre right, I dont think character and intensity is too much to ask. The more concerning thing for me is the things that Mack says about himself. I dont think he believes in himself. I think hes putting up a front trying to convince everybody else of something that he himself does not believe. Pride is playing a huge part in this... If we can get Patterson for sure or another game changer than Im all for it, depending. However, I do not want to get rid of Mack if there isnt a game changer in hand. The whole program is scrambling right now and I hear all of the hopeful things that people are saying but I dont honestly think any of them believe in what theyre saying. The numbers do not lie and there is nothing at all that shows any signs of next year being better than the last 3.

This and Agie is starting to rip our ass in recruiting. All of a sudden Mack is looking old.

I have said it before but I think the game has passed Mack up in many aspects. He has no passion, enthusiasm, no FIRE IN THE GUT. His speeches in the locker room are more grandfatherly than football coach. With that being said.... there are just no prospects out there at this point . It looks like Chris Peterson might very well stay put at Boise. And different forum topic but why in the hell does nobody want the Tennessee job???

A) As far as the Texas turning into Tennessee where no one wants to coach here. That won't happen. Texas and Tennessee are far apart economically. But it is weird coaches are turning down the job. B) But Jo Pa and Bowden are great examples of coaches who are out of their prime and on the decline. Players can decline out of their prime, why not coaches?

The one thing that really frustrates me is the lack of intensity and the lack of physical play the offensive line and entire defense play with. These players are good recruits with good/great talent. But they aren't playing with as much intensity and strong physical play as they need to and a lot of that is a mentality that Mack isn't instilling into his team like other coaches are around the nation.

I think next year is Mack's last year. I think he will throw in the towel himself and retire from the program once the season is done. I have no sources or anything, just my feeling on the situation.

And Coach Gs replacement got a big time class and is kicking ass. Football could easily do it

When you have a soon to be junior qb (Ash) and a Senior qb (McCoy) and you are combing the JUCO ranks for a passer.... Things are not looking up. Just sayin'.

We have a talent evaluation problem at the position. It is absolutely mind boggling.

I am more concerned with talent evaluation than coaching. How do we end up with a gaggle of QB's and not one that can manage a game?

We don't know if we still have that problem. Harsins recruits at QB haven't taken a snap yet. Majors RBs are all damn good. Wyatt's recievers are showing signs.

Searels seems to be getting monsters to grow as linemen. Our worst guy (Espinoza) wasn't his recruit.

The problem now isn't talent. It's the head coach. A new man with a new DC and this staff could easily be unstoppable fast

I thought the O-line pulled it together for the most part (the last handful of games) and those guys as a unit will be ok next year. Honestly I have no idea what to expect of the defense except things cannot get much worse. The logjam at qb will catch up to us sooner or later. You redshirted 2 freshmen and those guys are not going to be content sitting on the bench.

And ask yourself this question: If you had the University President AND the Athletic Director publicly supporting you, saying you will be back, would you resign? Mack won't go out like this, no way.
