These teams are in the playoffs ?

I think at some point the UIL will stop the 4 team districts because of the 0-10 teams getting in the playoffs while other, more deserving teams sit home.

They went too far. Hopefully, they're smart enough to see that.

There really should be a reasonable middle ground because I wouldn't want to recoil too far, either. I still remember a Chapel Hill team that finished 6-4 but got into the playoffs and won the whole thing.
That was the 1989 Chapel Hill Bulldogs team coached by Dickey (Dickie?) Meeks.  Made the playoffs with that 6-4 record,

ran the table and won state.

In 1997, the UIL took three teams in the baseball playoffs for the first time. My McCallum Knights team finished third by rallying late to beat an inferior team in the last district game.

We went to the State Tournament and beat Taylor, Hays, Boerne, Robstown and CC Calallen to get there. I did not apologize to anyone for finishing third.
With all due respect Jim, baseball is another animal. Your comparing apples to oranges. You have one good pitcher and can flip for one game series, heck might have been mandatory one game back then, and you come out smelling like a rose. That's why I think all baseball playoffs should be two outta three.

Heck two years ago the state champion was beat by someone in their district 3 times. The other team didn't even make the playoffs. Don't see stuff like that happen in football.

i'd guess most of us could agree there's a reasonable middle ground where having only one team per district is too exclusive, but having 0-10 and 1-9 teams make it is too inclusive.

but, the genie isn't likely going back in the bottle so it's likely a moot debate.
I agree having only one team is too exclusive.

I remember back in the mid 70's Sherman going 2 years without a loss and having nothing to show for it.

One year they tied Plano in district play and lost on the penetrations tie-breaker so they didn't even advance to the playoffs while finishing 9-0-1 for the season.

The next year they won the district championship going 10-0. Won the first 2 playoff games and then played Temple in Texas Stadium. Temple scored 3 touchdowns in the last 5-6 minutes to tie the game at 35-35 and won on the same penetrations tiebreaker.

bullshit on 2 out of 3. what is the State Tournament? sudden death, one game, winner advance, loser go home

the rules in 1997 allowed a coach to mandate one game, and 2 out of 3 had to be played Fri-Sat, not Tues, Fri and Sat. I had one great pitcher, one good pitcher and nothing else. if there were a third game, I would be using position players to pitch.

there is nothing more fair than one game, your team is rested, my team is rested, your best pitcher, my best pitcher.

we "came out smelling like a rose" because we were better than those teams when it counted most.

you denigrate that accomplishment? Calallen was something like 66-4 in the two years prior to our game. take your disdain and your "all due respect" condescension and shove it.

Wow, someone got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Totally uncalled for.

I think state tournament should go to 2 outta three also actually. Just like prior to To state tourney it can be.
If it was nothing more fair then one game winner take all they wouldn't play a best of 7 series in the pros. That's why they went best outta there in college also.

Anything can happen in one game. The best team doesn't always win. But usually cream rises to the top in three games.

On our first run to state when we met with a coach to flip for one or three games his exact words were, "yall have a lot better team then us, but we have one stud pitcher and maybe can get a lucky bounce and score a few runs so we want one game."

However if I remember this topic was about football and you brought in baseball which I said is a completly different animal. Hopefully you agree with that.

Also have no idea where at in my post you get I belittled or criticized anything you accomplished as a coach that year. I know how hard it is to get to state tourney and win it. Regardless of who you have playing for you.
