The cases were dismissed from a legal perspective and Mack has said Vaccaro, Okafor and Matthews will not face suspensions. Instead they will have to earn the respect of their fellow teammates and will be forced to miss representing UT at Big XII Media Days.

Moral of the story - Pizza is bad for you.

I heard they refused to leave because they hadn't been given all of the food they had paid for......is that the right story?

I heard that too but like Mack said when a police officer asks you to leave you leave. And leave FAST.

Why are Austin Police assholes? Dig a little deeper, and youll find these 3 are well known for being assholes to people on 6th. The Police gave them every chance and had to act. They filed a charge to take care of the problem and did their jobs.

Wearing that Longhorn doesn't give you the right to do whatever the hell you want when you want.

I'm not a cop but I did go to UT and I saw a few athletes acting crazy on 6th. I also hung with a few athletes that walked into the same bar as I did on 6th and they were cool as hell. Situations are situations and sometimes this stuff happens. Sure some cops abuse power and authority but not all of them do. The good news is our players did not get suspended for any games and hopefully they learned their lesson not to mess around with law enforcement.

Like no other place in the world, when something happens in Austin, its ALWAYS the fault of the Officer. Lets be clear here.

The Officers DID NOT have a history of going down to 6th Street, treating people like crap, skipping out on tabs, acting like deliquents, and having to have Keenan Robinson chauffer them.

The Officers DID NOT cause disturbances that night

The Officers DID NOT force their own hands acting like that Longhorn gives them a free pass

Now what the Officers DID DO:

They filed the most lax charge possible instead of Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication

They handled the situation they were put in as best they could

They did their jobs.

Im as big or bigger Longhorn fan than anyone, but its attitudes like "Austin cops are assholes" and "We own the place" that led to the sence of entitlement which crippled this program.

No doubt that players can be assholes but who among us wouldn't be pissed if we didn't get all of the food we paid for? The cops should have talked to both parties & then instructed the restaurant to give the young men all of their food.

You sure know a lot about the situation? Were you there or do you, like a lot of people, just assume the players were at fault? All charges were dropped and no disciplinary action tells me the cops over reacted and at the least should have made the vendor give the guys their money back.

Reminds me of the rant Sam Kinnison went on in back to school when Dangerfield says something in his class. "ohh. I didn't know you wanted to get involved in the discussion mr. Helper!". I wasn't sittin' around doing drugs listening to the gd Beatles albums! I was THERE!

If the dudes didn't get what they paid for I can see them not moving until they got their stuff. As a consumer we all know we don't want to get jerked around by someone. The cops might not have known the entire situation. Could have been a he said, she said type of thing.

Was I there? No. Do I live here, work in the profession, and have access to a broad spectrum of peopleand information in the service and law enforcement industries you dont? Yes.

Did they or didn't they get all of their food? Tell us what the perspective is from APD. Or were they just hanging and not leaving a the order of the officers?

From "sources" and friends who work down there:

On this night, the three had been drinking, and at the point of contact had already been kicked out of two bars and denied entry into at least one more due to their behavior. APD Officers were witnessed making contact with them on at least two other occasions trying to get them to calm down and move along. During one of the incidents Vacarro began yelling and calling the Police "racists" for making contact with him.

APD was called due to the group causing a disturbance with some people near the pizza place. By this point, you, me, or anyone else would have been under the Travis County Jail for Public Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct. Given these guys high profile, I don't doubt at all there was hesitation to have to arrest them. You have to consider the powerful boosters who could end your career with a simple phone call. Its not fair, but its the truth.

They had indeed ordered pizza, but Im not sure if it had been paid for or not. Given Vacarro's reputation for not paying for anything ever, draw your own conclusions. They were asked to leave the area immediately, and refused to do so. At that point there was no choice, they had to go.

The charge filed falls under Disregard Police Officer. Its more of a traffic offense based charge but would do the job in a pinch. They were arrested, booked, and released. Normal procedure on something like this is a PR Bond. Doesnt give them a reportable criminal record.

The allegations made regarding the Probable Cause Affidavits not being sufficient is dubious at best. APD employs veteran officers who review every PC Affidavit at the jail before a charge is filed. This, like the Cedric Benson cases disappearing, is pretty standard when influencial people get involved.

Bottomline, this all could have been avoided had they not been acting like entitled juvenile assholes and behaved more like team leaders, and in Vacarro's case, a parent with an opportunity to provide for his child's long term future.

Regarding the food order, if paid for, is NOT the problem of APD. The guys can go back the next day and get their money back. It can also be documented in the Police report if necessary. Basically the same as if a guy goes into a bar, ends up getting arrested, and is in the middle of drinking a beer he bought. Its a civil matter, not a criminal one.

That's what I call breaking it down! Thanks for the info Sgt. John. I hope our players act like the professionals we know they will become one day. They are college students but they also represent the University and need to be aware of that. I feel Coach Brown handled it appropriately with no suspension.

Sgt, if it went down like you say it did and I have no reason to doubt your story, they should have been disciplined.

We don't need troublemakers on the team but Mack handled it appropriately. Either one of them messes up again and it will be a different story. I don't think a future should be ruined regardless of who you are as a young man or woman. Time for football to get here to take the minds off of the extracurricular...
