The Ride

I thought he already had an offer?

There's been negotiating, and an agreement to a set of terms and such, but no formal offer has been extended.

I understand that Powers will present the offer to Saban, not sure how that happens (in person or via phone, hand-delivered contract accompanied by phone call, etc,) but this will happen shortly after our game. He has until a short time after his game to provide an answer.

I've read JS' report and it jives with what I've heard. I don't think he was specific on timing of the offer other than "this week."

The deal is, I've had several other people today (both before and after the Humidor was released) saying the same thing to me via text, calls and an email. These people are not IT readers or the types to pay attention to that stuff.

I'm like anyone else, I don't want my hopes beaten down again. But by God it sure is looking like the next head football coach at the University of Texas is going to be Nick Saban.

LOL - This is going to outrage more than a few on here, but I actually think his blog is worth $10 a month. I would pay it. Certainly this blog is equally worth what IT and OB are charging - don't you think?
I'm not outraged, but when all is said and done I'll probably drop OB's and keep IT. I already pay for 247, too. I don't need six college football message board subscriptions.

My sources tell me an offer to Saban will be made this week. If he balks we wait until the end of the bowl season.
Well, that's only 4 days later than this weeks Sugar Bowl. A week from today. BCS Natty.

powers will offer saban??? powers is staying out of this completly
Until now. Was told he had to be on board with this, per other side. Presentation from him is official and resolves the "on board" thing, as far as I can tell.

But yea, you're right. Powers has not been a part of this.

It's certainly worth the $10 a month. But I hope that this being a board by the fans for the fans, we won't need to see HS resort to that. I'm much more in favor of HS adding a donate feature.
Or SirHornsalot could buy 200 years of advertising in advance.

Sounds good and here's to hoping you're right!

Well said SHA, well said.

if it were to be saban, we would know fri or sat...no way they allow his family more than 2 days to stay in alabama if he is leaving that team...
I don't know. I've heard some reports that if it's him it might not be announced until the 6th. What a way to say FU to Auburn on his way out of Alabama! lol

exactly why he would have to announce right away...that state will go Chernobyl...doubt he would risk it and wait that long

I think originally someone on here posted that it could be announced between the Sugar Bowl (Jan 2nd) and the MNC game (Jan 6th)...So who knows. I would say that if we don't get an announcement before the MNC game starts than we can write Saban off.

Patterson is in the Texas camp.

Saban has the 1st shot.

Patterson likes Fisher, Strong and Harbaugh. Not Briles so much. A couple of BMD's like Briles.

I have always like that song by David Alan Coe about a ghost from Alabama. That song was written about Hank Williams Sr.
BTW, don't read too much into the lyrics.

Buckle up the ride is not going to smooth out until next week.

I get my information from multiple camps. All good sources too.

Camp 1, Has always stuck with stuck with Saban to Texas. Never waffled.

Camp 2, Not at all happy with coaching change.

Camp 3, Fisher, Strong , Briles

Camp 4, Saban, Fisher, Strong, Briles

Everyone else is a smoke screen. Gruden, Franklin, Mora Jr. etc.......

One thing has become certain, it is Pattersons decision and the Selection Committee will approve his candidate.

Before anyone says I'm hedging, I'm not not. I have no reason to hedge on what I share. If you want the absolute correct candidate, you are going to have

to read it in the paper. If you can control your stress and can enjoy the ride, then you will enjoy what I can share.

I was informed that there was a post on OB's titled "McPhaul has Some Interesting News". That post had over 7,700 views and 110 replies. Although I have out grown that site, there are still a lot of wonderful people over there. IMO, a lot of the criticism comes from alias accounts that are trying to prevent Hornsports from growing. Take that how you will. Personally I did not get in this business to compete with any other site. I got in this business to build a community that enjoyed a member friendly driven site.

I only have admiration for the job Chip, Jason, Jesus and crew do. I hope they all have success.

I am so ready for this to be over with..

After Saban, in the order you listed or Harbaugh, Fisher, Strong (please be this order)?

If it is Saban. I'm going with a free 7 day trial on Tide Sports.com. The meltdown will be of biblical proportions

I don't think he has to be in Bama when its announced. I'm not sure I'm so worried about that, although it would be pretty interesting if Bama did lose it's top over this.

I've never been more confident that its Saban, based on conversations I've had today. The one consistency I'm finding in all of these people is that Saban is the name at the top and the others are being shuffled around.

I've learned today that we've had an recent interest, serious interest, from an NFL guy that we are mutually interested in.

What does that mean? Patterson is not going to allow Texas to be left out in the cold should Saban for some reason not happen. He will have someone in a position to turn to in the event that happens. All the shuffling of names you see are alternative candidates. If the NFL guy were to become HC here, IMO, we would have a tremendously happy message board for quite some time. No, it's not Jim Harbaugh. For now, focus on the guy who is getting the offer later this evening.

When this is done, we'll hear more I think, and have a great respect for how Patterson handled this job.
