The Playoff Picture

Well....aggy was not the winner of the "crappy schedule to pad a record" sweepstakes....that honor goes to Notre Dame....the opponents on their schedule went for a combined...61- 65.....biggest win?....#23 ranked USC....They should not be in the top 20.
They're notre dame, they always get extra love for that.

It's not looking good for us to get in the playoffs. If we don't make it, I think Texas vs Michigan would be a great bowl game!

aggy gonna aggy. They're coping with the loss on Friday by spewing that they're playoff bound and we're not.

Doesn't matter. We inexplicably lost to Florida after a bye week. Self inflicted wound. We blew the playoff by losing that game. Nothing else. On to 2026. 🤷‍♂️
I agree.

I know publicly we will say "we shouldn't schedule the Ohio States anymore" but internally they all know that the Florida loss is what is really going to cost us. If we had beaten Ohio State, we'd also be in the playoffs....

After what happened with FSU in 2023...I cant and wont be shocked if the committee turns a 180 and changes criteria (like they seem to do every week anyway lol) this week or next to set up the playoff bracket.

Like I said, as of today I still think we're on the outside looking in, but anything is possible after the 2023 FSU debacle.

We are no doubt one of the top 12 teams in the country and I think there is no argument about that from anyone.

Sorry, I've been out the last couple of weeks and haven't been able to post. OK, here we go into the CCGs. Here are my random musings.

ACC
It's Duke and Virginia. You got to like Virginia as they went on the road and beat Duke handily (34-17). I still think Miami is the best team in the ACC and even though they are ranked higher than either of these 2 teams only the conference champ should get in but Miami could squeak in by virtue of their #12 ranking. If BYU losses more than likely, Miami moves to #11.

Big X
The 2 best teams in the Big X will square off in the CCG. Indiana will try to prove they're the new big dog in this conference. They've played the tougher schedule so this should be a good game.

With that said, both teams will make the playoffs. It will just be a matter of seeding. Winner is #1 seed and the loser, if it's a close game could be 4 or 5. Oregon will be in the playoffs and with Michigan's loss to OSU the Big X should only get 3 teams. This makes it very interesting.

Big 12
This one has been fairly predictable for a while. It's BYU and Tech. Winner is in. I believe only 1 team from the Big 12 should make the playoffs but I can see where if BYU wins, Tech still makes the playoffs. It's possible but I don't think that is right.

SEC
With only 3 Big X teams making it into the playoffs, this gives a conference an extra spot. Will it be Miami? Tech? or will a SEC team get the bid. Here's what I think I know.

Bama and Georgia are in the CCG. Winner is in. If Bama loses are they in or out? They would be in the same boat as Texas, a 1st week loss to Florida State. So who's got the better resume. 🤔Hmmm.

Ole Miss and the aggies are in. It looks like ouSux will be in too but they really didn't look good against LSU. Do they pass the eyeball test? Apparently the polls think so.

That gives the SEC 4 teams plus Bama if they beat Georgia. Could Vandy or Texas sneak into the playoffs if Bama loses? In my opinion Texas would deserve the spot.

The others
Notre Dame undeservedly gets a spot in the Playoffs. Why? Because they are ranked so high. Why? I don't have a clue.

So who is the sacrificial lamb from the 5th conference champ? Will it be JMU or the winner of the American Conference CCG? It'll be the winner of the North Texas and Tulane game. They will easily jump JMU when all is said and done.

So let's review.
ACC: Winner of Duke and Virginia
Big X: Indiana, Ohio State and Oregon
Big 12: Winner of BYU and Texas Tech
SEC: Winner of Georgia and Alabama, Ole Miss, aggie, ouSux
Notre Dame and the winner of North Texas and Tulane.

That's 11 teams. So who gets that last spot?
1) If Bama beats Georgia, they are in.
2) If BYU wins and Bama losses then both BYU and Tech are in
3) If Bama losses and Tech wins, Miami or Texas will get the final spot.

Very good summary. So it looks like we need Georgia and Tech to win, and hope the committee values our schedule (and beating 3 top 10 teams) over Miami’s

If the criteria is select the best teams right now... We should be in.
If the criteria is select the teams based on the entire season in review... We probably should miss out.
If the criteria is select the teams that draw in the most viewers... We should be in.
If the criteria is select the teams with the best W-L records... We won't make it.
If strength of schedule is important. We're in.

I don't know what the criteria is. I don't think the committee does either.

This has been said before: Texas laid an egg against Florida. We all know that. The 4th quarter against Georgia was nauseating.

That being said there is a big message the committee is sending: Don't schedule superb and marquis games. Fans love those games; it is good for the game. However, the committee is evidently frighten to make a decision. They lack leadership, integrity and transparency in their decision process. The committee sounds a lot like NCAA and all of their incompetent leadership.

If we get left out, we probably need to cancel our big OOC games. Even though we're supposed to win every game, sometime $#!+ happens and you lose one you're not supposed to. We need to keep our chances of making the playoffs as high as possible.

It really doesn't matter who the 12th team Miami, Texas, Tech. Neither of them have a realistic chance of winning it all. Sure it would be good for recruiting and such but I don't see any of those 3 getting very far.

All you need is a chance ;)

This debate about if Texas deserves to be in the playoffs demonstrates that no matter how big the playoff field is, there will always be teams that are left out with legitimate arguments.

If we make it, awesome, if not, oh well, at least we finished the season on a high note.

Go Duke.
Go UGA.
Go Tech... 🤮
If Bama loses and still gets in the committee needs to find a bunker to hide in.

We appear to be dead in the water. The playoffs were lost last off season when Sark was not focused and stood pat at several positions.

Its disappointing but I wont beat myself up about it.

We achieved the next best thing to a conference title season – we beat all three of our rivals (aggy, arkie, gooners)

We'll get a good bowl and hopefully win it. The extra practices are still in play which is big.

More time for Sark and staff to focus on the portal, too.

We definitely need to load up on the portal. Look at the receivers both aggy and 0u got from the portal that pretty much transformed their offenses. Without Concepcion and Sategna, there's no way these two teams are in the playoff.

Concepcion was a helluva grab for them.

On another note, bowl projections have the Horns facing Michigan in the Cheezit Bowl.
