PLEASE do not anybody start with the Baylor is going to whip our asses by 65 points.  I am tired of hearing it already.  We're a mediocre team this year, BIG DEAL, let's deal with it!  I personally want to see progression/improvement in each game.

 I've seen people on 247 saying they are embarrassed that Kansas gained essentially the same amount of yards. The first stats I always look at are turnovers and points inside the red zone. I don't think yards per game are a useless stat, but in the context of winning games I think turnover margin and points inside the red zone are much more important. Like Weis said, stats are meaningless when you lose by 23 points. I just don't understand how fans can be upset by a totally meaningless statistic.

Different styles of offense. Duke is always going to put up big numbers offensively, they play uptempo/spread. We are always going to be a conservative offense that relies on the defense. Certainly there might be grounds for criticizing a certain style of play, but Duke's disparity in yards per game really doesn't tell me anything. I think today was how Strong envisions our team (granted with a better offense). Ball control, limited turnovers, forced turnovers, and don't give up points in the red zone.

No problem. I enjoy the discussions. I'm also in the wait and see mode. I will say that there has been a shift in the style of play in college football, and I know there's a substantial group of people that think you have to play up-tempo/spread to win nowadays. I'm still a firm believer that ball possession, turnover battles and good defense wins titles. That's why I've always bought into Strong from day one, I tend to think his style of play wins titles. 

I also agree that we aren't a very good team. Like you said, I think that's more an indication of the shortage of talent and not the actual strategy.

true. regardless of the quality of the opponent or anything else, a shutout is a pretty rare animal.

I'll say it until I'm proven wrong, but I think our offense would be significantly better going up-tempo. That said, I'm not sure that Strong wants that considering the fact that he's a defensive guy.

My opinion is it's less about scheme and tempo and more about lack of playmakers.

Yeah...shouldn't have said significantly. There's no data to back that up...but I feel we've been better going up tempo. When we scored our lone TD against BYU, it was up-tempo. When we scored our go-ahead (at the time) TD against UCLA, up-tempo again. Against Kansas, our lone explosive play that got us into FG range (which ended up being blocked) was on a drive that was up-tempo.

No, we won't turn into Baylor/OKState/OU, but I think it will allow the offense to have a little bit of an advantage that we don't have now on offense.
