1st off... I hope not, I've never seen a team block a Zone Read and not have an actual read on the play
2nd, Up Tempo offenses always seemed like a gadget to me. It limits the kinds of plays you can run as well as limiting the potential size of your team (strength and weight wise not depth). I understand that they are somewhat effective, but by scoring quickly you really give the other team a lot of time to game plan, kill the clock, control the amount of possessions in a game, etc... I suppose it really comes down to what do you want your offense to do?
Score points or Control the game.
It sounds dumb at first because any sane first response is, "yeah score some damn points" but when you look at some of the more successful teams in the past they win games more so by not allowing their opponent to score rather than scoring more than their opponent.
In other words... If you score 48 points in a game you should win. Although, if you only let your opponent score 10 points, you should also win .
