Texas Women's Golf Team in National Championship Tomorrow

All the teams in the morning wave are on the course.

Texas off to a rough start in a tie for for last place at +12.

However, the course is playing extremely tough as no team is under par and the first place team (T. Tech) is leading at +3. And 5 of the 12 teams on the course are at +10 or worse. Looking at the individual scoring, it's kinda of looking like a bloodbath out there.

Man, I don't know if the weather is bad or if the golf course is just that tough but the scoring is brutal.

Texas is still in last place (12th) at +18 but only 7 strokes separates first and last place as +11 is leading.

Only 2 individual players (out of 65 or so) are under par and both are only -1. Every other player is over par.

At the pace things are going, about two-thirds of the field will not even break 80. If they did set the course up to be this hard, I hope the coaches give them absolute hell for it.

A girl from Princeton just shot 49 on her first nine and she qualified as an individual, meaning she shot really well to advance here.

Just checked the weather for Sugar Grove, Illinois. Now I know why the scores are as bad as they are.

It's currently 44 degrees with north winds in the high teens and gusting over 20 mph and it feels like 34 degrees. And it may start raining anytime.

Can't be fun playing in that.

Two Texas girls, Emilee Hoffman and Sophia Schubert, are currently tied for 7th at +3. No individual player is currently under par.

Teamwise, Texas tied for last place at +23 with +13 leading and +15 second.

Texas has finished the first round at +29 and current sit in 19th place (out of 24 teams). North Carolina has the best score of the morning wave at +21 with a few holes left to play. Texas could possible move up a couple of more spots by the end of the day. They play 3 rounds and cut to the top 15 teams who play one more round on Monday. The top 8 teams after Monday then move on to match play.

Just to give you an idea of how tough conditions are, the three top ranked teams (Stanford 1, Bama 2, and Florida 3) are about mid way through their opening nine and not one girl has made a birdie yet. In fact. Alabama is about mid way through their first nine and are already +9 and Florida is +8.

Wow, Alabama is the #2 seed in the tournament and they are +23 and haven't even finished their first nine holes yet!

Texas may very well be in the top 15 when the day is done.

Keep checking scores and Texas is going to definitely be in the top 15 at the end of the day and could get close to being in the top 10.

Conditions must be brutal.

Play has started today. Texas tees off at 12:30.

Early scores are high and Texas has moved up to T12.

I'll not be able to follow this afternoon as the son and I are playing in a member-guest. Unfortunately yesterday we played like the Alabama girls who came into the tournament as the #2 seed. They are in next-to-last place and we're only one place better  :(

Well okay, a good day for the girls today.

Now sitting in a tie for 9th, only 2 strokes out of 7th. Top 8 after tomorrow's round make to the match play which starts on Tuesday. Only 9 strokes separates 7th and 14th place so it should be quite an exciting day.
