Pitching matchup:
LHP Ty Culbreth (1-0, 1.80 ERA) vs LHP Chris Catellanos (1-0, 1.50 ERA)

Game Notes:

  • Patrick Mathis will miss the remainder of this series due to a hamstring injury. It's not major, but he will likely be out of the lineup for a week or so.
  • Tyler Rand will likely be out 4-6 weeks with a broken hand. He sustained the injury when Stanford Freshman pitcher Tristan Beck hit him on his right hand with an inside pitch on a bunt attempt. After the game the injury was not thought to be a break.
  • The Stanford relievers have been nails out of the bullpen this season, allowing just 1 run in 25.1 innings of relief. An ERA of 0.35. If Texas wants to win these next two, they'll have to get to the Stanford pitchers.
  • Texas has struck out 29 times in 19 innings of play over the first two games of this series. Thursday night had 18Ks, (6 K,) last night was 11Ks, (3 K) The good news is that the team is being aggressive at the plate. With the decline in Ks, the team is improving from game to game and adjusting better to how they choose their pitches.
  • Another good matchup on the mound today between two solid leftys.
