****Texas vs. Rice Game Thread*****

Could a member please post the name or web site that said Heard didn't have a strong enough arm. I watched that TD pass to Burt and it was 50 yards in the air. I would find that interesting. Unless it's someone from Horn Sports. ;)

I still don't have a clue on what Watson was looking at and doing this off season.

I mean...just looks like video of two offensive coaches going over some information. I hardly see anything tense about it. Maybe I'm wrong. I think some folks like to search for things and then find themselves fixated on some ultimately irrelevant small detail that supports what they've been searching for.

To be fair, Heard credits Watson for him being able to make that throw now.

I literally see the same thing...

Thanks for the response

QB comparison helps give perspective on how productive Heard was with fewer opportunities

I listened to a couple podcasts and also heard on the Bottom Line Radio Show with Chip Brown that Heard's arm strength was in question. Chip also endorsed Heard as the preferable starter though

Came from pretty much all of them.

They said;

1. He had a weak arm.

2. He wasn't accurate.

3. He had a bad attitude.

4. He had trouble learning the plays.

I think worse than that however is Strong saying Swoopes won the locker room and then seeing a quote from Malik Jefferson after the Rice game saying that all the players wanted to see Heard and that he was being held back.

Didn't see a problem with Heard's arm strength. That was the prettiest bomb I've seen at Texas in a long time.... Spiral and hit WR in stride........Colt had questionable arm strength and it didn't stop him from being the winningest QB at Texas. That was BS from Watson so he could use Swoopes. Granted it was Rice, but the offense looked ok. The most encouraging thing was seeing the back up QB actually running the offense instead of handing off play after play....The other thing great to see was ball threats in the backfield. Heard , Foreman, and Gray all three in the backfield on the same play from time to time.

Our defense is possibly worse than Manny Diaz led defense. Our D-line is worse than bad. Not sure if its lack of talent, or coaching; but we are in trouble there. this was Rice, and we couldn't get off the field.

I don't know that anyone said it wasn't 'strong enough', but plenty have said that he doesn't have a 'strong arm' (especially if you're comparing him to Swoopes who has a cannon on his shoulder).

That pass to Burt was beautiful and hit him right in stride, but compare that to the first TD pass to Foreman which seemed to flutter and barely made it to the end zone.

No one is going to accuse Heard of having a major league arm, but he can certainly make all the passes he'll need to.  And a smart OC won't ask him to make the passes he can't.

3. He had a bad attitude.
I'd like to see that link since I have never seen it or heard that about Heard. Even Strong stated he is always smiling.

4. He had trouble learning the plays.
Maybe so but even VY had problems learning plays from HS to college. Funny how everyone expects a freshman to know the system like a junior.

It was no secret he didn't have the strongest arm but wasn't that stated about Colt? Vince's accuracy was also questioned but didn't he lead the nation in completion percentage his last year at Texas? Bottom line Heard has it (heart & determination) and I'll take that any day over someone who doesn't.

Don't have a link but it was said on OB's that last year Heard didn't really study and do all that he needed to do be the QB at Texas since he knew he was red-shirting.

Well color me skeptical. After all, he learned a semi-different system in less than a week between ND & Rice.

There seems to be a lot of us that are skeptical about some of the things being said about Heard on the various sites. The mods on OB are getting it pretty good right now from various posters regarding what they have reported on Heard.

I really liked Norvell's interview after Rice  game...He sounded genuine, and much better than Watson. .......and No, I will never forgive Watson for putting his personal feelings of wanting Swoopes to succeed OVER the good of the Texas football team. Heard should have been the starter from day one.

Does anybody have a GIF of the Stiff arm D.Foreman put on the Rice player in the 1st qtr? Looked like Earl Campbell a quick second..Wow

Strong just said in Press Conf that sometimes Heard was so confident in practice and never bothered by anything that the coaches often questioned his focus

Well hopefully they (the coaches) get it now!
