SignUp Now!Stupid to be beating up your own team mates. Practice doesn't have to be a bloodfest to be effective.Coaches tend to get blamed for injuries. Most of the time it's just something else to complain about.
Some of those injuries are soft tissue injuries which could be a result of tougher practices. Most are not... Football is still a contact sport.
And if it's only a slapfest they'll crumble after the first big game hit.Stupid to be beating up your own team mates. Practice doesn't have to be a bloodfest to be effective.
Totally disagree. And if it's only a slapfest they'll crumble after the first big game hit.
Where are they going to get toughened up into game shape if not in practice? The toughest teams I can remember got toughened up in pre-season or during practice.
However yes... this can be taken too far. A balance must be struck between conditioning and preparedness. You don't want to grind everyone on Friday where they are all worn out on Saturday. But the Texas coaches monitor player health probably more than any college team out there, so I'm positive they are constantly watching this balance.
Overall we watched the better part of 10 years of 'soft' teams because of the country club atmosphere until 3 years ago. Since then that problem has been solved.
And guess what... players got injured before Herman came along. There's the opposite problem of players not being tough enough getting injured in higher impact situations because they were not *prepared* in practice.
So based on the last 15 years, give me Bloody Tuesdays and a tougher team.
So you prefer a laid back atmosphere where you don’t prepare for physical games?Totally disagree.
Even the TV announcers stated that should of been targeting by the ou defender on Sam. Their DBs also held all game long but why wouldn't they since the refs weren't calling it for the most part?Roach out for targeting. Does any one wonder about the two no target call by OU. Also the no facemask no call.
B12 refs have been inept for years.Even the TV announcers stated that should of been targeting by the ou defender on Sam. Their DBs also held all game long but why wouldn't they since the refs weren't calling it for the most part?
Apparently you didn't watch the West Virginia game. That's a game we would've lost in the past, by turning the ball over repeatedly, had we not dominated them on both sides of the ball. It's that kind of toughness that prevented a game like that from turning into an NC State kind of game.UT hasn't "out physicaled" anyone this season. I've watched every game. There's your proof. Take it or leave it. I'm done here.

I always consider tough teams come from tough defense. As you can see our defense is not tough. They are going down like flies.
I see bloody Tuesday having a big effect on injuries. I have been following UT since the mid 60's and this is by far the worst season for injuries that I've experienced and so far we do not have a tough team.
Practicing hard on Tuesday broke bones, dislocated shoulders and gave concussions in games on Saturday. Got itI always consider tough teams come from tough defense. As you can see our defense is not tough. They are going down like flies.

Defense: 511 Total Yards, 7.74 yards per play
After putting together one of the best seasons in school history in 2017, defensive coordinator Todd Orlando’s unit has struggled to get the job done in big games for the second-straight year. The 511-yard performance is the second 500-yard game this defense has allowed this season, granted both came against two quarterbacks likely to get invited to the Heisman Trophy ceremony at the end of the year.
If the season ended today, the Longhorns’ 453.3 yards per game allowed would be the highest average in school history, while the 6.4 yards per play would be the second-worst in school history. Through six games in 2019, the Longhorns have given up 2,770 yards, which if the trend holds would be the worst season total in school history, eclipsing last year’s 14-game total. These season totals will be inflated slightly over the rest of the bottom 10, as last year featured more games than any other season in the bottom 10.
Collin Johnson took a helmet-to-helmet hit
Agree, and by contrast injuries indicate we are not playing with tentativeness, which would indicate toughness, though I don't dwell over the topic. You have to separate execution and scheme from toughness. Others have pointed out also, but Herman got really out coached on Saturday. When the opposing team can run 20 yards left, and then 20 yards right... players just aren't in the right positions. That has nothing to do with toughness.
Toughness is both mental and physical, with the former being built upon by the latter. Toughness is about being able to grind for 3 quarters and have enough left to not get blown out in the 4th. Or to come from behind and not give up when down by a few scores.
It's hard to measure, but past Texas teams would've been blown out when down to ou by a couple scores. We've seen that before. Past Texas teams would've been blown out at home versus good teams like lsu. We've seen that before as well.
This Texas team has found a way to stay in games - with a chance of winning - against two of the top teams in the country. They physically dominated the opponents they were supposed to handle easily. That demonstrates a level of toughness that past teams have not demonstrated.
As for injuries... yeah, it's bad right now. We would need a more analytical look to go over the last 60 years and honestly know if this was really worse than at any point over that time. But I know half of the current injuries are just unlucky things that happen during a game:
Jeffrey McCulloch suffered a dislocated shoulder.
Chris Brown suffered a fractured forearm
Collin Johnson took a helmet-to-helmet hit
Jalen Green (dislocated shoulder)
Overshown is recovering from a vertebrae injury
Daniel Young - neck stinger
Malcom Roach - targeting suspension
Joshua Moore - being stupid suspension
Cade Brewer - concussion
How does one make their forearm bones strong enough to not get broken? How does one strengthen their shoulder to not get separated? How do you make your vertebrae 'tougher'?
None of those injuries have anything to do with 'toughness'. Some of the other injuries, having to do with soft tissue issues, might be related to getting worn down during the week.
But as one can clearly see, most of the IR related issues have to do with injuries (or suspensions) that would have nothing to do with what happened on Tuesday.
I agree. I think it would have been hard to miss so surely the coaches saw it, too. That brings me to think they believed having a 70 percent Foster was better than the next option. It seemed to me that after Foster got hurt and he re-entered the game. He was very tentative about making contact. Perhaps for fear of getting hurt again. We are running out of secondary players...
Can you curse a little louder? We can't hear you. Oh well, I'll just block you. Bye.Damn, cant believe I keep reading posts about coach shouldn't be practicing so hard on Tuesdays, stop bloody tuesday etc etc....F@#K that bullshit!!! I for one don't want to see a soft team like i did during the Mack Brown era. it was embarrassing and some of you same whiners that are complaining about bloody tuesdays probably complained about being too soft 63-14, 65-13, 55-17, 63-21 ......those are all scores where we got our asses handed to us by OU when they smacked us in the mouth.
I want to see a physical, hard playing defense and to do that you have to practice that way. Injuries are what they are, its just bad luck this year with them. The physical practices should NOT stop.
STFU about it!!
So the broadcast brought in the studio ref to explain why this wasn't called targeting. His explanation was that since 'side helmet' was used (not the crown) it was a legal and incidental hit.I can't believe the refs missed this one. I saw it and I was 300' out.
