Texas vs Nebraska Game 3 (Recap added)

Not sure why Marlow is going oppo with a 30 MPH wind blowing out to RF.  Doesn't make a lot of sense.

Well Matt, this team doesn't string singles together very often.

No other way to spin it, the team is stinking up the field right now. And the pitching is falling apart. 11 hits thr three innings is a disaster. Is the ten run rule in effect today?

Augie had better find the antidote fast because it's starting to remind me of the team we don't like to speak about. And we lose a ton next year. I am not feeling good about the prospects right now.

Well, we forced them to leave the bases loaded. That's a moral victory. Cmon boys, battle back. Let's get a three spot.

Hollingsworth has struggled all year.  French has been solid.  The rest of the pitching staff is young.

I think we are in a hitting slump right now, but I don't know why.

I'm watching the game on BTN and listening to it on the 1300 stream.  Whoever the Texas announcer is, he needs to switch from decaf to Red Bull.

Anybody remember the last time we had an excuse me mistake hit like that?

Me neither.

Nice DP. Thanks ump. I guess that makes up for that sorry hit.

That's the point. The players fell in love with their ability to mash. Even the coaches did to an extent.

To be an effective offense, extra-base hits need to be one part of the arsenal - not the whole armory.

Garrido loves the story of his Fullerton team that he calls one of the best offensive teams he's even been part of. They got to Omaha and elite postseason pitching shut them down. He said the guys were stunned & he uses the experience to constantly reaffirm the need to be deliberate on offense.

A month ago he said this Texas lineup needs to add small ball to the arsenal, but he (Minnesota series) was letting them swing away so they would gain confidence that they're capable of power hitting/XBH. It would appear that the whole team was lulled into the false confidence of power hitting.

My guess is Garrido will use this series to hammer that lesson home, in himself and in the players.

I'll refrain from posting a stat regarding the largest deficit the 'Horns have rallied from.  Joeywa may throw his cup of Shiner all over me.

If you're gonna do it, do it now before we come to bat!  Not before NU comes to the plate!  Ha!!!

Texas hitters can't buy a break.  Tons of at-'em balls.  All of NU's baseballs have eyes, while ours are blind as bats.

Hollingsworth has struggled all year.  French has been solid.  The rest of the pitching staff is young.
Hollingsworth had 3 excellent starts, and two really poor starts, and there's been no pattern or predictability to which one will happen:

Poor

Good

Poor

Good

Good

Poor - today at NU

He's been inconsistent, but I wouldn't say he's struggled all year. In those three good starts, he's been dominant.

Malmin in to P, and the 1300 announcer keeps calling him Sawyer.  Geez.  SMH

Johnson has a knack for getting on base, for hitting to a gap, and Clemens is pretty good at base hits, particularly for a sophomore pitcher.  Some of these other guys could learn from them.

It took a full at bat before Roger Wallace realized Jon Malmin came in to pitch for Sawyer.

Apparently the malaise is affecting the whole UT contingency.
